Family dinner with unlimited rice at Jjambbong Jijon, Bucheon

I went with my family on the weekend to Jjambbong Jijon, a well-known spot in Sinjung-dong, Bucheon. We had jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, tangsuyuk, and fried dumplings — plus a free jjamppong dumpling on top. Very satisfied with this one!

Jjambbong Jijon, a favorite spot in Sinjung-dong, Bucheon, is already celebrating its 5th anniversary! To mark the occasion, jjajangmyeon is going for a very kind ₩7,000.

Unlimited rice too — the self-serve zone service

Jjambbong Jijon is a Chinese restaurant that gets just as many dine-in guests as delivery orders. The space is spacious and clean, and the self-serve zone service was amazing.

Not just kimchi and side dishes — even rice was unlimited and self-serve.

The tables only had simple sauces, with danmuji (pickled radish) and water served in disposable single portions — I really liked how clean that felt, knowing nothing was being reused!

We ordered jjamppong, jjajangmyeon, tangsuyuk, and fried dumplings

Whenever I crave Chinese food, I always agonize over jjajangmyeon or jjamppong — this time we skipped the debate and ordered both. Add tangsuyuk and dumplings on top, and the table filled up fast.

I ordered the fried dumplings wanting to dip them in the tangsuyuk sauce, and then a jjamppong dumpling showed up as a free extra! The service at this Sinjung-dong, Bucheon favorite was really excellent.

Jjamppong — spicy but not too hot broth

First up, of course, was the jjamppong. The red broth looked spicy just from the color, and one spoonful confirmed it — sharp yet deep in flavor. Plenty of seafood and vegetables were mixed in too, so there was fun in picking through the toppings. It wasn't too spicy, so even someone who isn't great with heat could handle it without trouble, and it was the kind of jjamppong where you keep going back for more broth the more you eat.

Jjajangmyeon — the kids emptied their bowls fast

The kids naturally went for jjajangmyeon. The glossy black bean sauce was piled on generously, and mixed with the noodles it had a sweet, savory flavor that hit the spot. The kids said it was delicious and cleared their bowls in no time. Ordering it alongside jjamppong and taking turns between the two made it even better.

Tangsuyuk and the free jjamppong dumpling

You can't skip tangsuyuk at a Chinese restaurant. Fresh out of the fryer, it had a great combo of crispy batter and tender meat. The sauce wasn't overly sweet either, so it was easy to eat, and it ended up being one of the kids' favorite dishes. A spoonful of jjamppong broth followed by a piece of tangsuyuk really never fails.

What stuck with me most, though, was the free jjamppong dumpling. When it first arrived I thought, 'wait, this is really a freebie?' — that satisfying. The dumpling filling was made with jjamppong-style seasoning, giving it a whole different charm from a regular dumpling. One bite and you get that distinct spicy jjamppong flavor — quite a unique taste. Pretty impressive for a complimentary menu item.

My husband scooped a bowl of rice from the self-serve zone and mixed in a bit of both jjajang and jjamppong, trying out mini jjajang-bap and jjamppong-bap.

A family dining spot with even dessert drinks on the house

I've seen plenty of restaurants offer complimentary coffee for dessert, but I don't think I've ever seen one offer omija (schisandra berry) juice, plum juice, lemon iced tea, and peach iced tea all for free. On top of that there was dessert candy too — the service at Jjambbong Jijon was truly the best! Portions were generous and the food was clean overall, so I think it's a solid choice for a family meal out.
