Paju Chinese restaurant with squid and octopus add-ons: Dolpanseok

In short

Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch is a stone-plate jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) restaurant on Dolgotgi-gil in Paju, Gyeonggi. Returning after two months, the writer ordered the medium stone-plate jajangmyeon plus donchitang set for 41,000 won at spice level 1 and added both a whole squid (5,000 won) and a whole octopus (5,000 won). The best moment at Dolpanseok came at the end, scraping the crisped jajang nurungji off the bottom of the hot stone plate.

Looking for good jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) in Paju? 👀 I'd visited Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch before and had the nurungji stone-plate jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), which was so good I came back again this time 😊

Last time I had jjamppong, so this time I ordered the stone-plate jajangmyeon instead — and spoiler alert, it was also delicious!! haha The nurungji (crispy scorched rice) I ate at the end was truly a work of art 🤎

Since I visited not long after it opened, maybe that's why the interior still looked just as clean this time

Spaced-out table seating at Dolpanseok

The tables have decent spacing and there are baby chairs ready, so it looked like a good place for family meals too 😊

Unlimited rice refills at the Dolpanseok self-serve corner

The self-serve corner has bowls of rice and extra side dishes ready to grab as needed. Since the rice is unlimited, it's great for anyone who wants rice on top of their jajangmyeon or jjamppong

They had my favorite pa-kimchi too, so I loaded up again this time haha

New menu items at Dolpanseok Jjamppong

Sign for new menu items: samgye seafood nurungji-tang and cold jjamppong

Coming back after two months, I noticed some menu changes 👀 samgye seafood nurungji-tang (ginseng chicken and seafood scorched-rice soup), cold jjamppong (summer only)

Looking at the kiosk, there were new items alongside the old ones, so it was fun to compare with my last visit — chili pesto stone-plate jajangmyeon, nurungji stone-plate white jjamppong

But our mission that day was Paju stone-plate jajangmyeon! This time we ordered the medium stone-plate jajangmyeon + donchitang set, priced at ₩41,000

We picked spice level 1, the mild option, and also added one whole squid for ₩5,000 and one whole octopus for ₩5,000

Is adding whole squid and octopus worth 5,000 won each?

Stone-plate jajangmyeon with added whole squid and octopus

A little while later, the Paju stone-plate jajangmyeon arrived bubbling away on the hot stone plate 🔥

With both whole squid and octopus added, it looked incredibly hearty right from the first glance, right?

The squid and octopus were cut into bite-sized pieces and mixed evenly with the noodles. As the jajang sauce kept bubbling on the hot stone, it soaked deeply into the noodles and seafood — and the smell alone was amazing

A plate of jajangmyeon mixed with noodles and seafood

One bite in and I thought, oh, the jajangmyeon here is good too? haha The sauce was rich with deep savory flavor, and with all that seafood packed in, eating it together with the noodles was a real treat

Mild spice level 1 jajangmyeon noodles

Ordering at level 1 meant it wasn't spicy, so it was also a great way to enjoy the true flavor of jajangmyeon. The nurungji stone-plate jjamppong I had last time was delicious, but the stone-plate jajangmyeon was truly excellent too!! 👍

Donchitang: fried chicken and sweet-and-sour pork in one dish

Donchitang plate served with the set

The donchitang (chicken and pork combo) that came with the set was also quite generous in portion

Round fried pork pieces

One side is chicken coated in a sweet sauce like chicken gangjeong, and the other is round fried pork bites, similar to tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork)

The fried pork went really well dipped into the sweet-and-tangy tangsuyuk sauce served alongside

Fried pork dipped in tangsuyuk sauce

Being able to switch between chicken and tangsuyuk-style pork on one plate made it a great pairing alongside the stone-plate jajangmyeon 😊

The jajang nurungji scraped off the stone plate at the end 🤎

Jajang-soaked rice left on the bottom of the stone plate after the noodles

And you can't just stop after finishing the noodles with Paju stone-plate jajangmyeon haha. Once you've eaten a good amount, the rice underneath the noodles on the stone plate has soaked up the jajang sauce and properly crisped up

Thick jajang nurungji scraped up with a spoon

Scrape the bottom with a spoon and out comes thick, chewy jajang nurungji — this was genuinely the best part for me

It's nutty and deeply soaked in jajang sauce, so I kept scraping all the way to the bottom 😂

Empty stone plate and plum ade after finishing the meal

Coming back to Dolpanseok after two months and trying the stone-plate jajangmyeon this time, I really felt it was worth the return trip. I also had the plum ade — it's genuinely delicious!!

If you're looking for great Paju jajangmyeon or a Paju restaurant near Simhaksan for a family meal, give the stone-plate jajangmyeon at Dolpanseok a try :)
