In short
Omil Hongdae is a Japanese-Western fusion restaurant on Yanghwa-ro near Hongik University Station in Mapo, Seoul. Visiting with a friend, the writer ordered three dishes to share at Omil Hongdae — chongchongchong rubber duck omurice, spicy pollack roe pasta, and salmon steak gnocchi — and the tube-wearing rubber duck figure on the omurice could be taken home after the meal. Omil Hongdae is a good pick when you want cute photos and several different flavors in one visit.

What kind of restaurant is Omil Hongdae?
Omil Hongdae is a fusion restaurant near Hongik University Station on Yanghwa-ro that serves both Japanese and Western dishes. I went looking for a place with a nice atmosphere to eat in Hongdae, and the menu was so varied that it was easy to pick something to suit my taste.
In particular, they had everything from omurice (omelette rice) to pasta, steak, and gnocchi — all my usual favorites in one place, so just deciding what to order was fun haha. This time I wanted to try a few different dishes, so I ordered three: chongchongchong rubber duck omurice, spicy pollack roe pasta, and salmon steak gnocchi.

From adorable-looking dishes to hearty ones, there was enough variety that it was a good spot to visit with a friend and share.
Inside Omil Hongdae and what's on the menu
I visited Omil Hongdae, a place in Hongdae where you can enjoy both cute-looking food and a wide range of dishes. Since Omil is a fusion restaurant selling both Japanese and Western food, the menu was really varied — omurice, pasta, steak, gnocchi, and more.

Looking at the menu, pretty much everything looked delicious, so it was hard to decide what to order haha. They also have their own signature dishes, so if it's your first visit, it might be worth focusing on the representative menu items.
We ordered three: chongchongchong rubber duck omurice, spicy pollack roe pasta, and salmon steak gnocchi! Ordering several dishes and sharing them meant we got to try a wider variety than if we'd each just ordered one thing.
Chongchongchong rubber duck omurice: the figure is yours to keep
The first thing that caught my eye was Omil Hongdae's chongchongchong rubber duck omurice. The name alone is adorable, but seeing the actual dish, it was even cuter than I expected haha.

There's a rubber duck figure wearing a tube float sitting on top of the omurice, and with the food right there, I couldn't not take photos. I thought it was just for decoration, but the fact that you get to keep this rubber duck figure after eating was a nice bonus!!

The food wasn't just cute — the omurice itself was actually delicious, which made it even more satisfying. If you're looking for a photogenic dish, this one is especially fun to eat.
How did the spicy pollack roe pasta taste?
Second up was the spicy pollack roe pasta.

The pasta had a pollack roe base with some spice added, so it wasn't heavy or greasy and was easy to enjoy. Eating it alongside a relatively mild dish like the omurice worked really well — the spicy pasta kept refreshing the palate in between bites.
Salmon steak gnocchi at Omil Hongdae
Third was the salmon steak gnocchi. The salmon steak was tastier than I expected, and it was personally the dish I was most satisfied with.

Eating the tender salmon together with the gnocchi felt hearty and worked well as a full meal. If you like salmon, this one is worth ordering.
Besides these, Omil also has a variety of other menu items like soba maki (buckwheat noodle rolls), pollack roe pasta, steak, and more, so you can pick and choose according to your taste.

If you're visiting with a group, it might be nice for everyone to order a different dish they want and share a variety together.
Verdict: is Omil Hongdae good for a friend meetup or date in Hongdae?
What I liked about Omil Hongdae was being able to enjoy a wide range of both Japanese and Western dishes in one place. Above all, the chongchongchong rubber duck omurice was so cute that I ended up taking photos the moment it arrived haha. The rubber duck with its tube float wasn't just something to look at either — being able to actually take it home made it feel like getting a little souvenir, which made it even better!!

If you like cute food, you'll probably find this part fun too. And having actually eaten there, it wasn't just cute-looking — the dishes we ordered were genuinely tasty overall, so the meal itself was satisfying. The omurice and salmon steak were especially good, and adding the spicy pollack roe pasta meant we got to enjoy a different flavor with each dish.

It was a good place to visit for a date or a meal with friends in Hongdae. If you want cute food photos along with a variety of tasty dishes, I'd recommend Omil Hongdae!!
