Hongdae restaurant with quail-egg omurice and corn fritters: Omil

In short

Omil Hongdae is a fusion Italian restaurant on the second floor of a building on Yanghwa-ro, near Hongik University Station in Mapo, Seoul. I shared the rubber duck omurice topped with quail-egg decorations (16,900 won), gochujang butter pasta (18,900 won), and crunchy corn fritters (11,900 won) with a friend, and the omurice plating and the crunch of the corn fritters stood out most. Omil Hongdae delivers on both looks and flavor, making it a solid pick in Hongdae for a date or a catch-up with friends.

A unique Hongdae restaurant, a great Hongdae date spot — bursting with visuals and charm.

Why I chose Omil Hongdae

Omil Hongdae storefront entrance

I'd seen photos on social media of an omurice cutely decorated with quail eggs and just had to see it in person, so I went with a friend haha.

With its emotional interior and clean, characterful menu, it was a really enjoyable meal!

What we ordered at Omil Hongdae, and the table-bell system

After getting seated and looking over the menu, I went with Omil Hongdae's signature Chongchongchong! Rubber Duck Omurice and Gochujang Butter Pasta (K-butter pasta), plus Crunchy Corn Fritters as a side haha.

To order, you ring an antique-style brass bell sitting on the table to call over staff — such a unique, memorable touch~ There's a self-serve bar on one side of the restaurant with a water dispenser, pink cabbage pickles, and wet wipes that you can grab freely.

First to arrive was the Chongchongchong! Rubber Duck Omurice (₩16,900), the main dish topped with six quail-egg birds, each with eyes and beaks carefully placed with tweezers on top of a fluffy swirled egg blanket.

Styled with a mini palm tree umbrella and a little yellow tube toy, it was definitely fun to look at!

My friend was so charmed by the rubber duck figure and the little tube prop that she couldn't stop taking photos, and honestly her excitement rubbed off on me too haha.

The soft, fluffy egg blanket and the savory salmon fried rice underneath came together really well — a satisfying bite.

Gochujang butter pasta (18,900 won)

Next up was the Gochujang Butter Pasta (₩18,900), a fusion pasta topped generously with tender pork and a chunk of orange gochujang butter over the noodles.

Mixing the butter through evenly brought out a rich, creamy quality in the sauce, and the meat's juices blended with the umami of the gochujang butter, clinging nicely to the noodles haha. A comforting, not-too-heavy coating on every strand!

This one was genuinely unique and delicious — like a fusion of Korea and Italy?! If you visit Omil, order this dish!

Crunchy corn fritters (11,900 won)

On the side, we had the Crunchy Corn Fritters (₩11,900) — savory corn kernels fried until crisp, which paired nicely alongside the main dishes.

So crunchy, and sweet and nutty the more you chew — addictively good! I hereby name this Seoul's best 'addictive corn' spot.

Great as a dessert, or honestly just as delicious as an appetizer!

Atmosphere and seating at Omil Hongdae

Interior with exposed concrete and white tones

Omil Hongdae's interior mixes exposed concrete walls with white tones for a clean, modern feel.

There's a big folding-door window wall so it never feels cramped, and the soft orange lighting warmed up the whole space nicely haha.

The calm, cozy, well-arranged atmosphere makes it a great spot for friends or couples, and catching up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while over chatting here felt really meaningful. Also a fitting Hongdae date restaurant for couples!

Meal shared with a friend at Omil Hongdae

This will stick in my memory as a solid, reasonably priced Hongdae brunch spot and a Hongdae Italian restaurant with plenty of Western menu options.
