In short

The writer shared Monterey gochujang cream gnocchi and Cajun ragu pasta at 18,900 won each, plus a blue yuja (citron) ade at 4,800 won, and found the gochujang cream only mildly spicy and the ragu thick but not too salty. Rangteu Yeonnam is a fusion pasta restaurant in Yeonnam-dong, about 100m from Exit 3 of Hongik University Station. I'd gotten close with a younger coworker, and this time we went on a little Yeonnam-dong date together.

We were trying to decide where to eat, and Rangteu Yeonnam won out since it was close to Hongik University Station and looked like it had a nice atmosphere. Once we got there, the place was clean and the food was delicious, so I had a really pleasant meal. Let me walk you through what we ordered.
How far is Rangteu Yeonnam from Hongik University Station?

Rangteu Yeonnam is located fairly close to Exit 3 of Hongik University Station, about 100m away. You just walk along the Gyeongui Line Forest Park and duck into an alley for a bit, so it wasn't hard to find.
- Hours: Mon–Sun 11:30–21:30
- Last order 20:30

There was a menu board at the entrance, so you can check what's on offer before going in. If you're driving, keep in mind there's no dedicated parking lot — you can use the Urban Port Hongik Univ. Station lot or True Parking Hongik Univ. Station lot nearby, about a 5–7 minute walk to the restaurant. *Note that these are paid lots.
What is the atmosphere like for a date or blind date?

The Rangteu Yeonnam space isn't huge, but the large floor-to-ceiling windows kept it from feeling cramped. The interior was clean and modern, so overall it felt comfortable. There was even a spot next to the tables for bags, which felt like a nice attention to detail.

Green plants and orange lighting scattered here and there added a warmer touch to the space. Going around Yeonnam-dong, I've noticed a lot of restaurants and cafés have restrooms outside the building, but here the restroom is inside, which I personally found more convenient. Overall the atmosphere was relaxed enough that it'd work fine for a date or a blind date.
Can you bring your own wine? Corkage at Rangteu Yeonnam

Rangteu Yeonnam allows corkage, listed at ₩20,000 per bottle. I also noticed a wine fridge off to one side. They have a wine menu to pair with the pasta and gnocchi, and you can also bring your own bottle for corkage. Good to know if you're planning to bring wine.
What to order at Rangteu Yeonnam

Rangteu serves fusion dishes that combine European cooking methods with Korean ingredients. After some deliberation, here's what we ordered.
- Cajun ragu pasta ₩18,900
- Monterey gochujang cream gnocchi ₩18,900
- Blue yuja ade ₩4,800

Once everything arrived, the table was completely full — from the rich-looking ragu pasta to the gnocchi drenched in gochujang (Korean chili paste) cream, it all looked appetizing. Picking one dish each and sharing worked out great as a combo. The side dish was baek-kimchi (white kimchi), which was nice to have in between bites. Let's dig in one by one.
What does the blue yuja (citron) ade taste like?

First up was the blue yuja (citron) ade (₩4,800). The pretty blue color caught my eye the moment it arrived. There were yuja bits settled at the bottom, so it was best stirred well before drinking. Every sip had little pops of yuja bits with a refreshing tang that paired nicely with the pasta.
Is the Monterey gochujang cream gnocchi very spicy?

We started with the Monterey gochujang cream gnocchi. I expected it to be spicy given the gochujang, but it wasn't very spicy at all when I tried it, and the cream wasn't too heavy either, which I liked.

Cutting a piece of gnocchi in half showed it was thick, and it got chewier the more you chewed. Coated generously in the sauce, the gochujang and cream combo worked really well together, so I ate it happily.
Is the Cajun ragu pasta thick and heavy?

Next was the Cajun ragu pasta. The sauce was on the rich side, but the seasoning wasn't too strong, so it wasn't overwhelming.

There were finely chopped scallions, crunchy bits of bell pepper, and soft ground meat inside, which added some textural highlights. Mixing the sauce evenly through the noodles let all the toppings come through together in a way that worked really well.
Is Rangteu Yeonnam a good date spot in Yeonnam-dong?
It had been a while since I'd had a good meal with my coworker in Yeonnam-dong and just chatted away — a really enjoyable time. The atmosphere was nice and both the pasta and gnocchi were tasty, so I had a great meal overall. If you're wondering what to eat in Yeonnam-dong, give this place a try. Next time I'd like to try some of the other dishes I haven't had yet.
