Cheese octopus vs chicken skewer at Munkkocchi, a Jeonju snack stall

When you visit Jeonju, walking around Hanok Village is great, but honestly the real fun is snacking your way through the streets haha. This time I got drawn in by the visual of some skewers and stopped by Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch.

What kind of stall is Munkkocchi in Jeonju Hanok Village?

Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch is an octopus and chicken skewer takeout snack stall tucked in the alley off Eunhaeng-ro. You can see the menu right in front of the shop, and the cooking area is visible too.

Walking around the Hanok Village alleys, there's honestly so much to eat. Even if you've already had a meal, you end up buying one thing after another — that's the scary part of Hanok Village haha. We were also debating what to eat in Jeonju Hanok Village when we spotted the octopus and chicken skewers on display and just stopped in our tracks.

It felt more like a takeout snack specialist than a sit-down restaurant.

Still, there was a table and chairs right next to the shop, so we sat down and ate comfortably. You could see a hanok wall right beside us, which gave the spot a decent atmosphere. On a nice-weather day, it's perfect to grab a skewer and eat it outdoors.

What two people ordered at Munkkocchi, and the prices

Here's the menu! We ordered cheese octopus skewer, cheese chicken skewer, and a craft beer. I was driving, so I passed on the beer — my girlfriend drank it alone... T.T

The order came out fast!

Cheese octopus skewer, 6,000 won

This is the cheese octopus skewer. Even from the photo you can tell there's quite a lot of cheese piled on haha.

It's not just grilled octopus — there's a generous amount of sauce and cheese on top, so the flavor is richer than you'd expect. The octopus had some chew to it, but it wasn't tough to the point of being hard to eat. With the salty-sweet sauce and savory cheese added, it was much bolder and tastier than plain octopus.

If you especially like cheese, I think the cheese octopus skewer would suit your taste better than a katsuobushi-topped one. Among Jeonju Hanok Village snacks, it was an easy one to buy and split between two people.

Cheese chicken skewer, 6,000 won

Eating only octopus would've felt like something was missing, so we also ordered the cheese chicken skewer. Personally, chicken paired with cheese felt more familiar, so it was a flavor that couldn't go wrong haha. The chicken is coated in sauce with cheese properly layered on top.

One bite and the cheese stretched enough to make for a good photo. The chicken skewer itself was also sizable, so it was heartier than I expected. If you like octopus's distinctive chewy texture, go for the cheese octopus skewer; if you want something a bit more familiar and filling, the cheese chicken skewer works well.

If you're visiting as a couple, I'd recommend ordering one of each and splitting them like we did. Even though both are cheese menus, the textures were completely different, so alternating between the two was fun.

Slushy beer, 4,000 won: the drink to add to these skewers

And what really caught my eye was the slushy beer at ₩4,000. At first I just pictured a cold draft beer, but there's a beer slushy piled on top like soft-serve ice cream. The visual alone was fascinating haha.

When you drink it, the bottom is cold beer and the top is a slushy, like slush ice — great to drink while wandering around Hanok Village on a hot day. Especially after eating a skewer topped with cheese and sauce, one sip and your palate feels completely reset!

If you want to enjoy Jeonju Hanok Village snacks during the day with a light beer on the side, ordering this together seems like a good idea. Of course, since it's alcohol, skip it if you're planning to drive haha.

Is Munkkocchi worth a stop? Taste and texture verdict

After finishing, we ended up with a pile of skewer sticks haha. We started out just wanting a light snack, but between the cheese octopus and cheese chicken skewers, it turned out heartier than expected.

Being on skewers meant we could eat right away without plates or utensils, which fit well with Hanok Village street food. That said, since there's so much cheese and sauce on top, you might get it on your hands or around your mouth, so tissues are a must haha. The octopus-and-cheese combo in particular isn't that common, so it's worth trying at least once.

If you like trying a little bit of everything like we do, this is a good addition to a Jeonju Hanok Village snack course. You could just get the octopus skewer, or order one of each and compare, like we did.

Personally, I liked that the cheese was piled on more generously than expected, and pairing it with the slushy beer made for a great combo. If you're looking for something simple to eat while touring Jeonju Hanok Village, try the cheese octopus skewer and cheese chicken skewer at Munkkocchi. If you're visiting on a hot day, I'd also recommend adding the slushy beer to the combo :)
