Jeonju Hanok Village chicken shop with jjondeugi next door: Mannyeon

In short

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store is a dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken in a sweet-spicy glaze) shop at the three-way intersection at the start of Taejo-ro in Jeonju Hanok Village. The writer ordered a medium shrimp+chicken gangjeong in spicy, plus fried jjondeugi (chewy rice snack) from Gyodong Jjondeugi next door, eating the jjondeugi on the spot and carrying the gangjeong home. The spicy level at Mannyeon Dakgangjeong runs hotter than Shin Ramyun, yet the fresh-fruit sauce keeps it clean-tasting, and the sauce soaked in even better once the chicken cooled.

Where is Mannyeon Dakgangjeong in Jeonju Hanok Village?

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong is a dakgangjeong shop at the intersection near the entrance of Taejo-ro in Jeonju Hanok Village. It's open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, and you can park at Jeonju Hanok Village Parking Lots 1 or 2.

I visited Jeonju Hanok Village, which is such a famous place to visit in Jeonju. You can find all kinds of food along the pretty hanok alleys. Today I want to introduce [Mannyeon Dakgangjeong].

Have you all been to the hanok village? It's pretty no matter when you go!

I live close to Gwangju, so whenever I go to Jeonju I stop by the hanok village like a sparrow visiting a mill. Being a tourist spot, the food trends there seem to change all the time — lately it's fresh fruit mochi? But there are still shops that hold their ground, and among them, you can't skip [Mannyeon Dakgangjeong], which is basically the original dakgangjeong spot.

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong menu: which flavor and size to pick

The point of Mannyeon Dakgangjeong's menu is that you can try various combinations: dakgangjeong, shrimp+chicken gangjeong, and shrimp gangjeong. There are mild, spicy, soy sauce, and fried flavors, generally in medium and large sizes. Half-and-half can only be chosen in the large size.

As you stroll through the quiet hanok street, you can easily find it at the intersection near the entrance. The medium size seems to be about 2–3 servings, and the large about 3–4 servings.

They also run a shop called Gyodong Jjondeugi right next door, so you can enjoy the jjondeugi (chewy rice snack) + beer combo too.

Is it just me, or does it feel like you have to eat a fried jjondeugi when you visit a place like this haha.

I worried the shrimp would feel left out if I only ordered chicken, so I ordered something we could enjoy together!!

Fresh-fruit sauce, open kitchen and a 5–10 minute wait

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong says it's known for using fresh fruit sauce so there's no smell. The medium shrimp+chicken gangjeong in spicy flavor took about 5–10 minutes after ordering.

This is just personal preference, but I think dakgangjeong or yangnyeom chicken taste even better once they've cooled down. There was a sign that spoke directly to that preference of mine, and I couldn't just walk past it><

Shop sign saying it's tasty even cold

It had been a while since I last had it, so I was so excited that the wait felt endless,, (honestly it only took 5-10 minutes haha)

Oh!! And Jeonju's famous moju is well-known too, so if you visit, I recommend having it alongside!! It tastes like herbal medicine, similar to ssanghwa tea, mild and delicious😋

I guess it's an occupational habit,,, I can't help it, but I'm sensitive about hygiene?? Maybe because it's an open kitchen, but the oil was clean and the surroundings tidy, which gave off confidence about hygiene — a pass!!

Watching them toss the freshly fried gangjeong in sauce right in front of you is such fun to watch live, but I just ended up drooling next to it,,,🤤 The spicy flavor has garlic and cheongyang chili added to the hot sauce.

I regret not eating it right away,, I regret holding back after seeing this visual,, I left the lid slightly open to carry it home, and the smell nearly drove me crazy the whole way home!!!!!🥴

Fried jjondeugi from Gyodong Jjondeugi next door, eaten on the spot

I ordered the fried jjondeugi together from Gyodong Jjondeugi next to Mannyeon Dakgangjeong, and it really tastes best eaten right on the spot. It's such a great beer snack, seriously,,ㅜㅜ Am I quite an adult for wanting a drink with something like this??ㅋ

Once you fall for its addictive taste, you can't escape it>< (the plastic gloves are from Ojjang Twigim across the street!)

How spicy is the shrimp+chicken gangjeong once it cools at home?

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong's spicy flavor seems hotter than Shin Ramyun, so keep that in mind when ordering. When I got home and ate it cooled down, the sauce had soaked into the fried batter, making it even tastier.

As soon as I got home, before I even put my bags down, I took a bite right away lolol I'll never forget that first bite (╹ڡ╹) There's a reason it's known as a famous Jeonju Hanok Village restaurant. I ate the plump shrimp gangjeong first. I fully agree, a hundred times over, that it's delicious even cold. The sauce soaking into the fried coating makes it even better!!!

Shrimp gangjeong and dakgangjeong eaten cooled down at home

The dakgangjeong really has no smell at all, and eating it with chili is amazing!! The spicy kick hits right, so you never get tired of it. It seems spicier than Shin Ramyun, so keep that in mind when ordering. It's a place where you can enjoy a sauce flavor you never get sick of.

Who should order Mannyeon Dakgangjeong spicy?

Torn between too many food choices in Jeonju Hanok Village?? If you've booked a stay nearby and want a late-night snack, or if you want to take it home like I did, I highly recommend [Mannyeon Dakgangjeong]👍
