What a Jeonju local recommended: octopus skewers

Here's my recommendation for street food in Jeonju Hanok Village: <Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch>. A friend from Jeonju told me octopus skewers were the one street snack I absolutely had to try when visiting Hanok Village! From octopus skewers to octopus fritters, this menu isn't something you find easily elsewhere, which apparently makes it a popular Hanok Village snack.

Munkkocchi Mungangjeong's menu and prices
At Munkkocchi Mungangjeong you can get everything from octopus skewers to chicken skewers to octopus fritters! With so many flavors, plus a choice of mild or spicy within each, I could get exactly the skewer I wanted 💕 They also have plenty of drinks — slushies, beer, cola, sikhye (sweet rice punch) — so ordering a set together seemed like a good idea haha.
Katsuo octopus skewer ₩5,000 Cheese chicken skewer ₩6,000 Katsuo octopus fritter ₩8,500 Slushy beer ₩4,000

I'd had a late brunch, so by afternoon I was hungry and ended up ordering a bit of everything haha. Mild katsuo octopus skewer, spicy cheese chicken skewer, and mild katsuo octopus fritter! Adding a cold slushy beer on top made for a satisfying snack~

Slushy beer packed with ice, ₩4,000
The weather suddenly turned hot again while I was out looking around, so I was craving a cold beer — and then I found out it comes as a slushy?! I was so eager I took a sip before the skewers even arrived, and it was so refreshing with that icy texture, genuinely delicious. You have to try it, seriously🤤

Katsuo octopus skewer, seared to order, ₩5,000
When you order, they grill the skewer right in front of you with a dramatic open-flame sear~ Even the smell alone had me thinking this was going to be great, and once I got it, the visual was absolutely GOAT-tier...✨ The skewer itself is huge and long, so it definitely felt worth the money as a Jeonju Hanok Village snack!

I got the mild katsuo octopus skewer, and it was piled with so much bonito flakes it looked incredibly appetizing~! Even the octopus itself was completely plump👏🏻 Not tough at all, with a chewy texture that filled my mouth haha. So chewy and delicious that I couldn't stop eating — genuinely addictive!

For spicy, go with the cheese chicken skewer, ₩6,000
The look of the cheese chicken skewer alone was a total win ( •̀ ω •́ )✧ Even better, the cheese isn't frozen — it's natural cheese made with over 99% fresh mozzarella, which made it look even more delicious haha.

I ordered the cheese chicken skewer spicy, and combined with the cheese it was pure synergy, so absurdly good ㅠ.ㅠ The chicken skewer was so juicy that every bite had great texture, and the smoky, spicy flavor coated in soft, savory cheese was amazing! If you're ordering spicy, I highly recommend going with the cheese version👍

How is the octopus fritter different from takoyaki?
I also tried the octopus fritter, the one I was most curious about! I've eaten plenty of dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken with sauce) but this was my first time trying something similar made with octopus, so I was really looking forward to it haha.

It tastes similar to takoyaki, but unlike takoyaki's small bits of octopus, this fritter has whole, plump chunks of octopus! It felt like eating an entire piece of chewy, savory octopus, which made it a genuinely delicious and special dish😍

<Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch> turned out to be a delicious street-food snack stop in Jeonju Hanok Village. Since the octopus skewers and octopus fritters here are something you can really only get in Hanok Village, I think it's worth trying! Definitely give it a shot — it's the tasty street food my Jeonju-local friend recommended too haha.
