Geomdan tonkatsu restaurant for ramen and cheese cutlet: HOKATSU
In short
HOKATSU is a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant in Geomdan, Incheon, serving yogurt-aged pork cutlets and tonkotsu ramen. We enjoyed the tenderloin cutlet, stretchy cheese cutlet, and rich ramen broth as a couple. Verdict: HOKATSU is worth revisiting when a properly made pork cutlet is calling.

After going to Geomdan Library in the morning, I started looking around because I wanted some delicious tonkatsu (Japanese-style pork cutlet) for lunch, and HOKATSU had such good reviews! I felt like I had heard the name HOKATSU a lot, so I assumed it was a chain, but it wasn't! It seems to be a longtime local favorite in Geomdan. It wasn't far from Geomdan Library either, so we went right over.
Where is HOKATSU, and what about parking?

It's in the building with Megabox, so it was easy to find. Parking is always a worry for beginner drivers like me, but the underground lot was spacious and easy to use!

After parking, take the elevator up to the first floor and step outside—you'll find it right away. From the entrance alone, it has that local-gem aura~~.
A Blue Ribbon-selected Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant

It was selected for the 2026 Blue Ribbon Survey as a great Japanese-style tonkatsu spot. My anticipation was already bubbling over before even tasting the food 😆

There were autographs from celebrities displayed on the wall, too. I even spotted one from Chanwoo of Cultwo, haha.
Honey yogurt appetizer

Once you're seated, you order and pay on a tablet. They bring out honey yogurt as an appetizer. There is honey at the bottom, so it's best to mix it well before eating. I think kids would enjoy it too 😁

I noticed something that looked like a yogurt machine?? on one side of the restaurant! Maybe because the yogurt is made in-house, it wasn't overly sweet and tasted great 👍

Yogurt-aged tonkatsu made after you order
While we were waiting, I saw an explanation of the tonkatsu on the ordering tablet, haha. They don't pre-coat the meat with flour or breadcrumbs—they make it fresh, live, as soon as you order. They say it takes about 15 minutes on average, though it felt more like 10 minutes to me! And the unusual thing is that they age the pork in yogurt. I knew that yogurt machine in the restaurant seemed significant, haha. This really feels like a place that takes tonkatsu seriously.
How were the favorite cutlet platter and tonkotsu ramen?

Our favorite cutlet platter arrived. It comes with four pieces of tenderloin cutlet and two pieces of yellow cheese cutlet, and the pieces were large, so it didn't feel skimpy at all 😆 Tonkatsu sauce and cabbage-salad dressing don't come served with it. I thought something was missing at first, but there are sauces on the table, so just add as much as you like 😄

The tenderloin cutlet was a little pink, so I went, “Is it not cooked through???” haha—but it was perfectly cooked when I tried it, hahahaha. It was sooo~~~ tender. Our kids are still young, so we usually eat more Western-style tonkatsu, but since it was just the two of us that day, it was nice to order what we really wanted 🤣

The coating was thin, so it wasn't greasy; it was light and tender. Honestly, I think kids would eat this well too 😋 And apparently they drizzle truffle oil over this tenderloin cutlet! It definitely adds great aroma.
The yellow cheese cutlet has a mix of mozzarella and cheddar, which may be why the cheese flavor feels so varied. The cheese stretches for days, haha. This is exactly the joy of eating cheese cutlet 😆

We wanted something brothy too, so we ordered tonkotsu ramen. I originally wanted to try it spicy, but my husband had eaten spicy chicken feet the day before and insisted we order the non-spicy one, haha. The tonkotsu ramen was delicious too, with a rich broth and nice springy noodles.

Especially this pork!! It was so good. Maybe they sear it with a torch, because it had a smoky fire-kissed flavor. It seemed to be grilled after being lightly coated in sauce. There were two pieces, so my husband and I shared them nicely.
The tonkotsu ramen had more food than I expected, too! There were more noodles than I thought, haha. I absolutely love it when ramen comes with a soft-boiled egg.
Final thoughts on HOKATSU in Geomdan New Town
This isn't just an ordinary tonkatsu restaurant—it really feels like a destination worth seeking out. Tonkatsu can all taste pretty similar, but this genuinely had the flavor of a specialist shop. It was much tastier than famous tonkatsu chains. Next time, I'd love to come back with the kids too!
