Weekday dinner atmosphere and single-diner seats

The interior is clean and comfortable, with plenty of tables, baby chairs, and even a private room, making it good for company dinners or gatherings too! Even on a weekday evening, the place was full of customers, with lots of families — I could see why this is such a well-known spot among Busan locals!

These days a lot of people eat alone, and this place has single-seat tables set up for exactly that.

What are sanghwang mushroom noodles and herbal broth?

At Gupo Jjambbong, the jjambbong is made with a broth simmered from cordyceps mushroom and five herbal ingredients (Kalopanax, mulberry, Eleutherococcus, milkvetch root, and angelica root), so it feels less like just a meal and more like a premium health tonic!!

Information on cordyceps mushroom and herbal broth ingredients

This place also thinks about your health — the noodles are made with cordyceps mushroom powder and bean powder, giving them a soft yet chewy texture.

There's a self-serve corner off to the side where you can grab pickled radish and onions.

It's not easy to find a restaurant that's been featured on all three major broadcasters (MBC, KBS, SBS), but this Gupo spot is a Chinese food master recognized by all three!

Waiting, the etiquette zone and apple cider vinegar water

As you'd expect from a popular restaurant, there's a waitlist. We got in right away because we had a reservation, but weekends probably require waiting!

An "etiquette zone" that shows the owner's thoughtfulness — aprons, hair ties, floss, all set up so you can stay neat and tidy even after your meal! And the unusual thing here is the apple cider vinegar water!! Blood sugar management matters these days, and a glass of apple cider vinegar water after the meal helps with that too~~!

The restroom is inside the restaurant, in a single space split between men's and women's sides.

A plate of eggplant mandu at Gupo Jjambbong

Eggplant mandu, 7,000 won: the most-ordered dish

Eggplant mandu (₩7,000) is dumpling filling sandwiched between thin slices of eggplant, then fried — a Chinese-style mandu with a surprising crispy-outside, moist-inside twist.

Cross-section of eggplant mandu showing filling inside eggplant slices

It's so surprising that there's dumpling filling inside the eggplant! I get why it's the #1 most-ordered item. Crispy outside, moist inside, a completely new flavor to me — I really enjoyed it.

Small tangsuyuk topped with lettuce and chives

Small tangsuyuk, 18,000 won: sauce poured, dipped in wasabi

The small tangsuyuk (₩18,000) comes with crispy fried sweet-and-sour pork topped with lettuce, chives, and onion.

Tangsuyuk served with sauce, wasabi, and soy sauce

It comes with tangsuyuk sauce, wasabi, and soy sauce, and they recommended pouring the sauce over it and dipping it in wasabi.

I'm usually the type who pours the sauce over rather than dipping, so I'm all for it 🙆🏻‍♀️

Plate of tangsuyuk with sauce poured on top

Pouring the sauce over the tangsuyuk and adding wasabi gives it incredible flavor! The meat inside is substantial, and it stays crispy even with sauce poured on top — I get why every table ordered tangsuyuk 👏🏻

Health tonic jjambbong with octopus and abalone on top

Health-tonic octopus and abalone jjambbong, large, 16,000 won

The large octopus and abalone health jjambbong with cordyceps sweet potato greens (₩16,000) is a premium seafood jjambbong made with the health-focused cordyceps sweet potato greens broth, plus octopus and abalone. I wanted the premium rib and abalone jjambbong but it was sold out, so I went with this instead haha — the presentation is overwhelming @.@

There's a whole octopus in the jjambbong, and it's plump and substantial!!

The health-conscious cordyceps mushroom noodles!! The chewy texture, different from regular noodles, is fun 😊

Seafood platter jjajang topped with a fried egg

Seafood platter jjajang, 9,000 won

The seafood platter jjajang (₩9,000) is stir-fried jjajangmyeon with fresh seafood and vegetables adding a clean flavor. It's packed with seafood and topped with a fried egg, which made it even more delicious!!

A full spread of jjambbong, jjajang, and tangsuyuk at Gupo Jjambbong

We left completely stuffed haha. It was nice to have such a hearty, health-tonic-style meal, and next time I'll come back for the premium rib and abalone jjambbong. Highly recommend as a Gupo restaurant 👍🏻
