In short
Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is a wood-fired grilled fish restaurant on Seobu-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, near Hoemaesil IC. After her child's growth-shot appointment, the writer ordered grilled Spanish mackerel and grilled mackerel and added gochujang bulgogi, only to learn the gochujang bulgogi comes as standard, so the table was overflowing. The one-menu-per-person rule starts from middle school age, which makes it easy to come with a small eater, and leftovers went home in free takeout containers.

Suwon has basically become my neighborhood at this point — I've been coming every two weeks for my kid's growth-hormone shots. On the way back from an appointment, we stopped for dinner at a Suwon grilled fish spot, Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda.
These days grilled fish Korean restaurants have such varied banchan (side dishes), and wood-fired grilled fish is pretty universally liked, so it makes for an easy family meal that's affordable, nutritious, tasty, and varied.

Where is Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch, and is there parking?
Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is close to Hoemaesil IC too, so it's a convenient stop for a meal on your way out of Suwon. Parking is ample and the store itself is big — good stuff.

Inside the restaurant: does it smell of grilled fish?
The interior looked spacious and clean through the big front windows, and sure enough, the place was large with generous spacing between tables — really comfortable to eat in. And best of all: is this even a grilled fish restaurant? The ventilation was so good there wasn't a hint of fish smell haha.

One menu per person starts from middle school age
We sat down and ordered via tablet. Usually at wood-fired grilled fish places the one-menu-per-person rule kicks in from elementary age or even preschool age, but here at this Suwon grilled fish spot, it only applies from middle school up — so it was easy to bring my light-eating kid without pressure.

The menu: gochujang bulgogi comes with the meal
The menu at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch ranges from a special premium set piled with grilled and raw fish, to fresh sashimi options like croaker sashimi, mackerel sashimi, abalone sashimi, and mackerel sushi, to grilled fish choices — mackerel, Spanish mackerel, cutlassfish, croaker, bakdae (sole), imyeonsu (Alaska pollock) — and braised dishes like braised mackerel, braised cutlassfish, and gochujang bulgogi to perk up your appetite. Gochujang bulgogi actually comes free by default, so try it before ordering extra!! I didn't know that and ordered an extra portion, and ended up stuffed with meat haha.

What's on the self-serve banchan bar
Staff kept refilling and tidying the self-serve bar constantly, which is probably why the food stayed warm and never went soggy — you could feel the care put into it. Some dishes come as default banchan, and cheongpomuk (mung bean jelly), japchae, geotjeori (fresh kimchi), sungnyung (scorched rice water), and sikhye (sweet rice drink) are all available as extras to grab as you like.

The table: grilled Spanish mackerel and grilled mackerel
The table came out lavishly set — grilled Spanish mackerel, grilled mackerel, and the extra gochujang bulgogi I ordered. I was shocked at how much extra bulgogi showed up since it also comes free by default haha. Everything was arranged neatly in upscale tableware — a feast for the eyes, the nose, and then the mouth.

You could tell the banchan weren't just there to pad out the count — each one was seasoned boldly enough to let the ingredient's own flavor shine rather than cover it up. The cheongpomuk mix especially was JMT (really freaking tasty) — my kid and I went back for seconds twice haha.

Grilled fish is hard to make at home, and it's best eaten fresh off the grill while warm! Crispy golden outside, moist inside — good on its own or over rice.

Grilled mackerel that won over a Spanish mackerel fan
Maybe it's because the restaurant's name literally means 'mackerel becomes a masterpiece,' but the mackerel really was excellent!! I'm normally more of a Spanish mackerel person, but the mackerel's signature nutty richness and moist fattiness were genuinely delicious.

Gochujang bulgogi mild enough for a child
On top of everything, gochujang bulgogi comes free by default — great value haha. It was seasoned just right, sweet and spicy, so even my older kid could enjoy it too. It came with wrap vegetables so we could make ssambap (wrapped rice) too, and once we got tired of the fish, spooning in the sweet-spicy bulgogi meant we could keep eating endlessly, no problem!

Can you take leftovers home?
The leftover fish and bulgogi were packed into clean containers, free of charge! We could take everything home neatly.
Final verdict on Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch
Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda, a Suwon grilled fish restaurant, delivers golden-grilled fish, banchan made with real care and variety, great value for money, a clean and comfortable interior, and friendly service — nothing missing. This is the kind of place where I immediately thought, I should bring my parents here.
