Coffee by Hands Roastery: a new roastery between Sungsil Univ. and Sangdo stations
Coffee by Hands Roastery café.
It's located roughly between Sungsil Univ. Station and Sangdo Station — a brand new café. I had some business near Sungsil Univ. Station, searched for good coffee nearby, and found this roastery café, Coffee by Hands, so I decided to stop for a coffee. I found it via Google Maps! I got a little lost, but when I finally spotted the blue roof, I was so relieved haha.
There's a market and various restaurants and cafés worth checking out behind Sungsil Univ. Station too. I saw the sign that read "We make good coffee ourselves" and walked straight in.
These days I've picked up the hobby of seeking out roastery cafés. I'm honestly very serious about coffee. Even when I travel, I search for coffee shops and bakeries before restaurants.
Coffee by Hands Roastery hours and parking
Coffee by Hands is open Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:30am to 5:30pm. Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:30am to 2:30pm — those two days seem to be roasting days. Closed on Sundays.
Brief parking is available in front of the café. Last order is 15 minutes before closing.
Iced dutch coffee latte, 4,500 won: the owner's recommendation
I was lucky to visit during a quiet time, so I chatted with the owner and asked all my coffee questions. I was going to order the einspänner, their signature menu, but after talking it over with the owner, I ended up ordering the iced dutch coffee latte (₩4,500) I'd been curious about. What I drink really depends on my mood and the time of day.
A Seoul café that sells latte by the bottle: 500ml for 8,000 won
While waiting, I noticed the display case had dutch coffee and bottled coffees. This is the first café I've seen selling latte by the bottle (500ml for ₩8,000, 1000ml for ₩14,500) — I thought only straight dutch coffee or espresso shots came bottled like that. I had to buy one on the spot! I went with the 500ml.
While waiting for my order, I noticed the simple, tasteful phrases and photos on the wall. Turns out the owner used to work as a researcher at a food R&D institute and became a roaster. Since 2019, they've studied coffee like a recipe to develop — not flashy, but sincere coffee, as they put it.
Payment methods, canned coffee and how long the bottle latte keeps
Toss Pay and Facepay are accepted, as well as Seoul Pay. I paid with Facepay.
Bottled coffee is available, but I loved that they can also make canned coffee to order. I was going to buy a can since I had a trip out of town that weekend, but seeing the bottle latte in person made me want to buy it right away instead. When I asked, the owner said it keeps refrigerated for up to a week after opening.
Seating at Coffee by Hands and how the dutch latte tastes
The shop is small, but there were window seats near the entrance for sitting and drinking in. While waiting for my dutch latte, I brought the bottle latte to my table for some photos. I was looking forward to a latte made with their own roasted beans.
Finally, the iced dutch coffee latte made with dutch coffee concentrate arrived. It was a decent size too. I took a photo for proof, then took a sip — smooth and nutty. Finding a great coffee spot always puts me in a good mood.
This feels like a café that's truly serious about coffee. I was a bit self-conscious sitting alone, so I decided to take it to go instead haha.
Drip bags at 1,700 won, made with low-acidity beans
They also sell drip bags, so I bought one to try. It's ₩1,700 each. You can choose the bean type too, so I asked for one with no acidity!
This place feels like a small, cozy café — but it also feels like the home of a coffee craftsman! Discovering a great coffee spot like this always makes me happy.
Don't make your café latte anymore — just pour and drink it!

Once home, I made a morning iced latte from the bottle latte, and it was rich and nutty — exactly my style!
The bottle is so pretty I kept taking photos of it. Next time, I definitely have to try their signature einspänner.
