Hamdeok black pork with Hallasan soju and kim wraps: Jeju Samchun
In short
Jeju Samchun is a black pork BBQ restaurant near Hamdeok Beach in Jocheon-eup, Jeju, a 3-minute walk from the beach and 6 minutes from Sonobel Jeju. The Jocha Set of pork neck and samgyeopsal (pork belly) is grilled at the table by staff, and here it came with Hallasan soju and gim-ssam (seaweed wraps), plus an extra order of hangjeongsal (pork jowl). The 300-hour low-temperature aging and grapevine smoking kept the meat worth one more bite long after the table was full.

Inside the restaurant and the outdoor seating
Walking into Jeju Samchun, it was much bigger and more comfortable than I expected. The tables had generous spacing and everything felt clean overall — this would be a great spot for a date, too.
The tables and seats were spacious enough that it also felt perfect for group gatherings or a family trip stop.

In one corner of the restaurant, I noticed an aging chamber where fresh black pork was being aged to perfection.

Outside, soft lighting created a cozy outdoor space, and a cute dol hareubang (stone grandfather statue) greeted us, making it feel like a real Jeju trip 👍 The dol hareubang was even wearing an adorable Jeju hat, but the hat had slipped off — I just casually mentioned 'oh, the hat fell off,' and the staff heard me and put it back on ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ, haha.
Jeju Samchun menu: sets and side dishes

Jeju Samchun says it uses certified Jeju black pork verified by Jeju City, aged for 300 hours at low temperature and then smoked using grapevine wood chips!

The set menu lets you try various cuts, and you can also add single cuts on top! Pork neck, pork belly, pork jowl, and gabrisal (skirt meat) are all available.

There's also a nice range of sides, from kimchi jjigae to hangover ramyeon and noodles 😊

You can get a free kimchi jjigae through their review event 😆
The banchan spread and a bottle of Hallasan soju

Once you order at Jeju Samchun, the staff sets up the table for you.

Each person gets their own dipping sauce, plus 3 kinds of separate meat sauces, side dishes that go great with the meat, two more side dishes, and wrap vegetables.

Since I'd come this far, it seemed a shame not to order hallasan soju too 😎 They even had a mild version, haha.
What comes in the Jocha Set: pork neck and pork belly

After some thought over what to order, I settled on the Jocha Set with pork neck and pork belly. With the cute dol hareubang figure added in, it felt like the perfect combination packed full of Jeju vibes 👍
You can even watch the performance of the grapevine chip smoke being infused into the meat.
At Jeju Samchun's Hamdeok Beach location, the staff grills the meat you ordered, so you get to enjoy meat cooked to just the right point by an expert's hand.

From the fresh bright red look to the outstanding quality, right down to the mushroom stamped with the restaurant's name — doesn't the attention to detail make it look even more delicious 😆
Watching it grill alongside the cute dol hareubang figure made the Jeju trip feeling even stronger 😎
300-hour aged black pork with grapevine smoke
The staff grilled the thick cuts of black pork on the grill plate beautifully, and you could really tell it was an expert's touch 👍

They grilled it according to the thickness of the meat, and once done, moved it to the side of the grill so it was easy to eat.

Taking a bite of a perfectly grilled piece of black pork, the outside was crispy while the inside burst with rich juices the more I chewed — truly a work of art.

I tried putting a piece of well-cooked black pork on crispy, savory kim (seaweed) with some sauce, and this combination was truly special 😉
Even while eating the black pork, watching it being cut into bite-sized pieces and turning golden brown on the grill made my mouth water all over again.

With the sizzling sound and the faint scent of smoke spreading around, the wait felt so long — the visual was that perfect.

Trying a golden-brown piece of black pork, it was truly delicious pork belly, packed with juice 👍

Eating it together with scallion shreds and various side dishes, the meat kept disappearing without ever getting boring!!
Adding hangjeongsal (pork jowl) to the order
So I quickly added an order of pork jowl too 😉

Watching the pork jowl sizzle and cook deliciously on the hot grill plate got me mentally ready to dig in all over again.
With its distinctive grain and savory flavor, plus a chewy, melt-in-your-mouth texture, it was really charming — eating it together with tangy-sweet scallion shreds made the chewy, bursting savory flavor even better 😆 I could enjoy it perfectly down to the last piece without ever getting tired of it, and even though I was full, it was a satisfying meal where I couldn't put my chopsticks down 😊
