In short
Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang is a beef tail soup (kkori gomtang) restaurant on Pyeonghwa-ro 43beon-gil near Peace Square in Mokpo. The order was the hanwoo cow tail soup for two, with the rich broth seasoned to taste with salt at the table and eaten alongside a chive garnish and diced radish kimchi. Soju at 3,000 won on the menu made the meal an even easier recommendation.

You know those days when the air turns chilly and all you can think about is a bowl of hot soup?

On days like that I naturally start craving warm soup dishes like gomtang (bone broth soup) or gukbap (soup with rice), and today, while looking for somewhere hearty to eat near Peace Square, I went to Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang on a friend's recommendation.

I like gomtang, so I was curious what it would taste like here, and after eating it myself — the broth, the meat, and even the side dishes — I was pretty satisfied.
Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang hours and parking in Mokpo
Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang is open daily from 10:00 to 22:30. There's no dedicated lot, but you can park in front of the restaurant or along the roadside.

What the dining room and seating are like
Walking inside Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang, the overall atmosphere felt clean and tidy.

The spacing between tables felt roomy so I could eat comfortably, and the tables themselves were wide, which looked good for families or larger groups too.
Menu lineup and soju at 3,000 won
Besides the signature kkori gomtang, Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang's menu also includes doganitang (knee cartilage soup), eongchitang (hip bone soup), suyuktang, suyuk (boiled meat), and suyuk jeongol (boiled meat hot pot). There were more varieties than I expected, so I'd like to try other menu items next time I visit~ I heard eongchitang is only sold in a limited quantity of 10 bowls a day, so it's worth keeping in mind if you're curious.

And something else caught my eye on the menu — soju was only ₩3,000! These days soju prices at restaurants can feel pretty steep, so ₩3,000 really was surprisingly cheap.

For anyone who fancies a glass of soju with their gomtang, this is a pretty welcome detail too.
Hanwoo cow tail soup for two: how are the broth and the meat?
After some deliberation we ordered the hanwoo cow tail soup for two, and it didn't take long for the kkori gomtang to arrive. Served piping hot in a stone bowl (ttukbaegi), it looked appetizing from the moment it landed on the table :)

I tried a spoonful of the broth first, and it was genuinely rich and delicious. Broth is everything with gomtang — if it's too bland it's a letdown, but here the broth itself was full-bodied, which really suited my taste hahaha.

And what I liked was being able to season it myself with salt! It's not overly salted from the start — you taste the base broth first, and if it needs more, you add salt little by little to suit your own taste, which I appreciated.
There was also more meat inside than I expected, and when I tried it, the texture was tender and soft, not chewy at all, which made it easy to eat!

With kkori gomtang, tough meat can be a bit disappointing, but the meat here was tender and satisfying.

There were also thin wheat noodles (somyeon) in the broth, and mixing in rice on top made it a really filling meal hahaha.

Chive garnish, diced radish kimchi and the other side dishes
Personally, what I liked quite a lot about Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang was the side dishes. When I eat gomtang, I think the kimchi really matters.

No matter how good the broth is, if the diced radish kimchi (kkakdugi) or kimchi falls short, something feels missing — but here, both the kkakdugi and the chive garnish were really tasty!

The chives in particular went really well laid on top of the gomtang. Adding a bit of chive garnish to the rich broth and reaching for the kkakdugi in between, my chopsticks just kept going back for more!
A third-generation restaurant, now moved near Peace Square
Mujinjang Kkori Gomtang has been run for three generations! It's the kind of place any Mokpo local would know, and apparently it's only been about a month since it moved to its current spot near Peace Square.

It was a solid spot to stop by for a hearty meal whenever I'm craving warm soup near Peace Square. If you're looking for a good restaurant near Mokpo Peace Square, how about Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang~~~~~?
