Wolmidang Gwangju Chonnam National University Branch is a pho restaurant next to Megabox by the back gate of Chonnam National University in Buk-gu, Gwangju. Recommending a Gwangju food spot, Wolmidang Chonnam Univ Branch, a pho restaurant with 1 hour of free Megabox parking.
Wolmidang Chonnam Univ Branch, next to Megabox at the back gate

I went to Wolmidang Chonnam Univ Branch, a newly opened pho spot near the back gate of Chonnam National University! It's right next to Megabox so it's easy to find, and since there's 1 hour of free Megabox parking, it was convenient to visit by car too.

Being newly opened, the place was really clean, and the interior was bigger than I expected.

Along with regular tables, there are separate tables for one that are great for solo dining, so this could be a good spot for anyone looking for a solo meal near Chonnam National University!

On the table there are also instructions on how to enjoy bún chả and pho, so even first-time visitors can eat without any confusion.

Also, something I personally liked was that they give each person their own serving of pickled onion as a basic side dish. When you're sharing, you end up eating a surprising amount of pickled onion, so it was nice that there was plenty!

Free refills of noodles, bean sprouts, pickled onion, cheongyang chili
Most importantly, Wolmidang Chonnam Univ Branch offers free refills of noodles, bean sprouts, pickled onion, and cheongyang chili! For anyone who loves pho, this is amazing,,,,,,,!!!! The base portion isn't small either, but you can add more if it's not enough, so it's really great value.
Review of the dishes we ordered for two
The two of us ordered beef brisket tendon pho + grilled bulgogi rice bowl + fried items.

What does beef brisket tendon pho taste like?
The dish I was most curious about was the beef brisket tendon pho. At most pho places you usually see brisket or thin-sliced beef, but pho with beef tendon isn't common, so I ordered it right away.

The tendon had a nice chewy bite, and the meat was tender too. The broth in particular was rich, the kind of flavor that makes you keep spooning it up. Since noodles and bean sprouts are free refills, I thought I'd get another round… but the base portion was already so generous that I couldn't manage a refill in the end. If you're a big eater, adding extra noodles or bean sprouts would make for a really filling meal.

Grilled bulgogi rice bowl, watch out for the spice
The grilled bulgogi rice bowl was spicier than I expected.

There's peperoncino flakes sprinkled over the meat, and even the fried egg is coated in spicy sauce, so if you can't handle spice well, the first bite might catch you a little off guard! Still, eating the smoky-grilled bulgogi with rice was great, and with the egg on top it made for a filling one-dish meal. For those who like spicy rice bowls, this might actually suit your taste perfectly! (This is exactly my style~~~~)

When you order a rice dish, they also give you a separate bowl of broth like this, haha.

Sides: cha gio and mianbaosha
We also ordered cha gio (Vietnamese fried spring rolls) and mianbaosha (fried shrimp toast) as sides. Both came out freshly fried, crispy on the outside, and went well with the pho.

Among them, the sweet potato cha gio was especially delicious. The sweetness of the sweet potato paired well with the crispy fried coating, so personally I'd recommend the cha gio among the sides! We ordered three kinds of dishes between the two of us, and the portions were quite generous, so we ate until we were really full.
Would I go back?

This is a place I'd definitely go back to whenever I'm craving pho near the back gate of Chonnam National University! Being newly opened, the place is clean and spacious, plus there are solo-dining tables, and with free refills of noodles, bean sprouts, pickled onion, and cheongyang chili, the value was great too. It's located right next to Megabox so it was easy to find, and since parking gets 1 hour free with Megabox, visiting by car wasn't a burden either.
With separate solo-dining tables available, it looked comfortable to visit alone too, and adding side dishes like cha gio and mianbaosha meant even two people could enjoy a pretty hearty meal together. In particular, the beef brisket tendon pho, a dish that's hard to find elsewhere, satisfied with its combination of tendon, tender meat, and rich broth.
If you're looking for a pho restaurant near Chonnam National University's back gate, a solo-dining spot near the back gate, or a good-value restaurant near Chonnam National University, I highly recommend Wolmidang Chonnam Univ Branch! 🌿
