In short
Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong is a Chinese restaurant on Ilsanjin 5-gil in Dong-gu, Ulsan, specialising in stone-plate jjamppong and jjajang. After a walk at Daewangam Park, our family ate dol jjajang, dol jjamppong and dontang (pork soup), and the standout was the microwave set aside for baby food plus a storage box of kids' tableware in one corner of the dining room. Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong is an easy place for families with small children to eat their fill without feeling rushed.

We took a family trip to Daewangam Park over the weekend. As they say, even Geumgangsan looks better after a meal — after a fun walk, we all got hungry haha. I wanted something special and hearty instead of ordinary Chinese food, so I searched around and found an Ulsan Daewangam spot famous for its jaw-dropping presentation and generous portions. We went right away!!

Today I'm introducing 'Daewangam Dol Jjamppong'! Here's my honest, vivid review of a place that was a treat for both the eyes and the mouth. Walking inside, a bright, pleasant interior greeted us. The tables were spaced generously, making it a comfortable atmosphere for a group meal.

What the wall sign means: "4 people, medium size OK"
On the wall at Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong is a sign saying you don't have to order by headcount. The moment I saw it, I had to do a double take haha.
4 people can order medium size OK, 2 people can order large size OK. Don't be shy, order as much as you want^^
Most restaurants ask you to order according to your headcount, so this owner's generosity really stood out haha. Just how big are the portions that they'd put up a sign like this? I was already excited before the food even arrived. I could see why this place has become a word-of-mouth favorite in Dong-gu, Ulsan.

Why Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong works with a baby: the baby-food microwave
In a corner of Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong, there's a separate 'baby-food microwave' and 'kids' tableware storage.' Personally, this was the most touching detail — such thoughtful consideration for families dining with young children hahaha. Parents with little kids often feel awkward asking to use the microwave every time they eat out, so having one set aside just for that purpose made this feel like a truly considerate, genuine favorite.
Dol jjajang topped with a whole squid
The dish I'd been waiting for finally arrived! First, the dol jjajang (stone-plate black bean noodles), sizzling away with an almost musical bubbling sound haha. On the piping-hot stone plate sat rich jjajang sauce, chewy noodles, and — stealing the whole show — a whole squid plopped right on top!!! The plump squid was cut into bite-sized pieces with scissors, and it was so tender you could feel the texture just from the cutting. The cute quail eggs completed the combo perfectly. Unlike regular jjajangmyeon, the stone plate kept everything warm until the last bite, with a faint smoky char that made it impossible to put down the chopsticks.

Daewangam dol jjamppong: a mountain of bean sprouts and scorched rice
Next up, the highlight of this Ilsanjin, Ulsan favorite — the long-awaited dol jjamppong! The mountain of crisp bean sprouts piled high on top drew gasps from the whole family haha. Beneath the bubbling red broth, all kinds of seafood and noodles were hiding. As instructed on the guide, we mixed the sprouts and noodles evenly before taking a bite — spicy yet rich with the deep, refreshing taste of seafood, it felt like a proper hangover cure even though I hadn't had a drink the night before. It was that satisfying kind of spicy that just melts away stress! After finishing the noodles, scooping up the scorched rice at the bottom with the broth was a delicacy in its own right.

Dontang (pork soup) our child happily ate
But that's not all!!! You can't leave without ordering sweet-and-sour pork, right? Hahahaha. What I ordered was dontang!!!! Somewhere between pork cutlet and sweet-and-sour pork, the meat was thick and cut, paired with onions, it was crisp and crunchy. The tangy-sweet sauce wasn't overpowering, so even my own kid ate it well! Pairing it with the spicy, rich Daewangam dol jjamppong was the best combo ~~~~ My husband kept saying it was delicious too haha. It's not just the main dishes, dol jjamppong and dol jjajang — even the side dish quality here is no joke.

Is Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong worth it for a family outing?
After trying it myself, I could instantly see why this place is becoming such a hot favorite around Daewangam and Dong-gu, Ulsan. The colorful toppings served hot on a stone plate that you just can't get at a typical Chinese restaurant, the generous portions that let you eat your fill without any awkwardness, and the thoughtful details plus service for families with kids — I'd give it 100 out of 100 on every front.
If you're heading to Daewangam Park or Ilsan Beach for a date or a family outing, I highly recommend stopping by 'Daewangam Dol Jjamppong' for a hearty, special meal!
