Sashimi platter for 3, family visit at Dongnam Hoe Sikdang, Pohang
In short
Dongnam Hoe Sikdang is a sashimi and seafood restaurant on the crab-and-sashimi street inside Jukdo Market in Pohang. Since it wasn't crab season, the writer's family ordered the sashimi platter for 3 (₩80,000) and shared it among two adults and one child, from the banchan to a finishing seafood ramyeon, in a clean, friendly dining room right inside the market. A nearby paid parking lot even offers a free 1-hour parking voucher, making it an easy stop for families.

It's been a while since I visited Pohang. It's the closest coastal city to Daegu, so I come here often. I had such a satisfying meal — a generous sashimi platter with plenty of banchan (side dishes), all fresh and chewy — that I wanted to share the experience. Here's my honest review of Dongnam Hoe Sikdang, a well-known spot at Pohang's Jukdo Market.

Where it is in Jukdo Market (outside & parking)

It sits right on Pohang Jukdo Market's crab-and-sashimi street. The seafood in the tanks out front looked fresh and well kept. Dongnam Hoe Sikdang isn't far from Public Parking Lot 1 or Lot 3, so it's easy to park and walk over. Even if the public lots are full, the nearby private Jukdo Market Parking and Kkachi Parking both offer a free 1-hour voucher — worth knowing if you're driving.
Inside the restaurant and getting seated

The bright lighting makes the clean interior stand out even more. The owner's friendly welcome put me in a good mood the moment we walked in. Dongnam Hoe Sikdang has clearly earned its reputation as a Jukdo Market favorite — it's even been on TV. Full of anticipation, we sat down at the table we were shown. My family arrived around 4:30pm, and by 5pm the first-floor seating had already filled up fast. The restaurant has a second floor too, which is great for group gatherings or reunions.
Menu and order — sashimi platter for 3, ₩80,000

It wasn't crab season, so we saved that for another visit and ordered the sashimi platter for 3 at ₩80,000. Since we were a party of 4, a table charge of ₩5,000 × 4 people applied. It looked like a lot of people were also ordering the red snow crab this season, so keep that in mind when you order.
What we ordered

The generous sashimi platter for 3 arrived. The set above includes banchan, spicy fish stew, and even seafood ramyeon.

Each banchan was good quality on its own — fried enoki mushroom, fish cutlet, corn cheese, and more dishes you keep reaching for. And the seafood ramyeon my kid had been eyeing rounded it out perfectly!

Shrimp, whelk, lotus-leaf sweet rice, soy sauce marinated crab, and steamed pollock.

Abalone sashimi, corn cheese, and even rice and seaweed to make your own sushi.

A vividly colored sashimi platter. It was plated so beautifully that just looking at it made me happy before I even took a bite. I squeezed on some lemon juice, gave it a swirl, and savored each piece. Our youngest still can't eat raw fish, so the amount was just right for two adults and one child.

A bite wrapped in lettuce with garlic and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) — that chewy texture spreads through your mouth. The heat had just broken that day and it was a bit cooler than usual, which somehow made everything taste even better and more atmospheric. If this were near my house, I'd have had a shot of soju with it.

Finishing with seafood ramyeon
Seafood ramyeon with mussels, red snow crab, and green onion. A meal really only feels complete when you finish with a spicy broth. They'd offered spicy fish stew, but since the kids ate the ramyeon so well, I asked for a second bowl of that instead. I was too full to try it myself, but they do provide the spicy fish stew as a finishing dish too, so don't skip it.
The smell while it bubbles away is just incredible. A perfect way to end a trip to Pohang.
Final thoughts
Overview
Jukdo Market is somewhere I stop by often whenever I'm in Pohang, and this restaurant left an impression — clean and tidy inside despite being tucked into the market, with attentive, friendly staff that made me want to come back. The banchan was varied and high quality, and the fresh sashimi and crab set were excellent too. Don't forget to grab the free voucher for the nearby private parking lot. I hope you get to enjoy a comfortable, delicious meal with fresh seafood here. That was Dongnam Hoe Sikdang, a Jukdo Market favorite known for crab, in Pohang.
