Gyeongju fruit mochi shop at 4pm, only two flavors left: Tareudang

Today I'm sharing my review of Tareudang, a snack I had in Gyeongju. The cute orange-striped awning caught my eye, but by the time I visited, most flavors were already sold out. * This was at 4pm, so I'd recommend going earlier! I tried the gold kiwi and pineapple that were left, and both were sweet and tart — delicious. I really wanted to try the peach flavor next time :)

What Tareudang looks like inside and out

Tareudang is a charming little dessert shop with an orange-striped awning on Sajeong-ro in Hwangnidang-gil, Gyeongju. The bright walls, low roof, and brick fence out front all went together nicely.

The shop looked so pretty in the sunlight that I took a few exterior shots.

A 4pm visit: 5-minute wait and a nearly empty case

At Tareudang I was able to buy after about a 5-minute wait! While waiting, I could look at the menu photos posted outside. They showed the fruit inside each mochi, which was nice for seeing what kinds were available. But when I got there, almost everything was sold out..!

Looking at the photos got me curious about several flavors, but in reality only gold kiwi and pineapple were available to choose from. It was a bit disappointing not to try more varieties, but I packed up the two that were left and headed out!

How do Tareudang's gold kiwi and pineapple mochi taste?

I ate the mochi I'd packed from Tareudang outside. The white mochi had yellow fruit inside, so I took a cross-section photo while eating.

Gold kiwi mochi

The gold kiwi was sweet with that distinctive tartness of kiwi. The sweetness combined with the tartness made it refreshing to eat. If you're craving a dessert with some fruity tartness rather than something purely sweet, this would suit you well. I enjoyed it a lot :)

Pineapple mochi

The pineapple was also sweet-tart and delicious! Both the gold kiwi and pineapple leaned toward the tart side. It was a bit disappointing that no other flavors were available, but since the ones left were delicious, I was glad I'd packed them up haha.

Final verdict on Tareudang

The disappointing part was that most flavors were sold out at the time of my visit, so I couldn't try a wider variety. I think I'll go back to try the peach flavor!

This time I only got to try two flavors since most were sold out, but both the gold kiwi and pineapple were sweet-tart and made a great snack during my Gyeongju trip. It was a shame not to choose from a full lineup, but since the two I tried were good, it made me curious about the other flavors too. If you like fruit mochi, it's worth stopping by while you're exploring Hwangnidang-gil.

If you have a specific flavor in mind like I did, check what's left as soon as you arrive. What you see in the menu photos may not match what's actually available to buy :) Next time I go to Gyeongju, I plan to try the peach flavor. I loved the tartness of the kiwi and pineapple, so I'm curious what a peach mochi would taste like. I'll fill in this trip's disappointment on my next visit! I'll try the peach flavor then and let you know which one I liked better haha.
