This is a record of picking up mochi from Tareudang, the line-up dessert spot on Hwangnidang-gil known for its hwangnam mochi (giant fruit mochi).

Why stop at Tareudang on Heritage Nighttime Tour air show day?

Last week I went on a rare Gyeongju outing to catch the Black Eagles air show near Woljeonggyo bridge, part of the opening of the Gyeongju Heritage Nighttime Tour!! Going alone would've been lonely, but luckily it was my son's school anniversary holiday, so I lured him along with the promise of good food haha.

After a satisfying lunch at Dongyangbaekban, we needed something sweet too, so off we went to pick up mochi from Tareudang, the line-up dessert shop on Hwangnidang-gil known for its hwangnam mochi ^^

Tareudang, the line-up dessert shop on Hwangnidang-gil known for its hwangnam mochi, is takeout-only, so if you're just grabbing a quick pickup you could probably drive into the alley. But I had zero intention of driving into that chaotic Hwangnidang-gil alley!! Since we planned to have lunch, watch the Black Eagles show, see the Daereungwon media art, and head home late that night, I just paid the one-day rate at the public parking lot and walked around freely.

Can you order flavors that aren't in the display case?

At Tareudang, even flavors not on display can be made to order on the spot if the ingredients are on hand. When we visited there was a customer ahead of us, so we waited... and while waiting my son and I debated what to order lol.

Don't be disappointed if a flavor isn't in the showcase!!! Figs are trending right now, and since there was no fig in the showcase I didn't order one, but the customers after us just asked for it to be made fresh~~~ Next time I go I'll order fig and dried persimmon too ^^

I thought Tareudang, the line-up dessert shop on Hwangnidang-gil known for its hwangnam mochi, only did the giant fruit mochi, but turns out they also take orders for tarts!!! Between lunch on Hwangnidang-gil, mochi from Tareudang, walnut cakes to pack for my husband, and needing to save room for coin-shaped bread, there was simply no way I could order anything more haha.

Prices for the three Tareudang mochi ordered

• Mango yogurt: ₩7,500
• Peach yogurt: ₩7,000
• Pineapple: ₩5,500

So I carefully picked 3 mochi and had them packed, planning to eat them right after a walk with my son.

Does a cooler bag keep the mochi good until afternoon?

If you're eating right at Tareudang, regular wrapping is fine, but we were way too full and planned to eat slowly after a walk~~~~ So we got them packed in a cooler bag, and they put them in the prettiest little cooler bag!!! It would make a perfect souvenir gift from a Gyeongju Hwangnidang-gil trip ^^

They even put an ice pack inside the cooler bag, so even eaten in the afternoon it hadn't gone off at all and stayed just as chewy ^^

The mochi weren't individually labeled, so I couldn't tell the flavors before opening them, but each one was wrapped in hanji (traditional paper) in a color matching its fruit!!! Chewy mochi packed with really plump fruit inside — no way to eat it neatly, so I'm the kind of woman who brought a mini knife from home lol. Brought wet wipes too, very prepared haha.

Mango yogurt, pineapple or peach yogurt: which mochi won?

Mango yogurt mochi, 7,500 won

The one my son enjoyed most was the mango yogurt mochi!!! Chewy mochi combined with fruit bursting with juice — how could it not be delicious ^^ The size is generous so it doesn't feel skimpy~~ If you love mango, I'd recommend one per person lol.

Pineapple mochi, 5,500 won

Refreshingly tangy pineapple!! This pineapple mochi was actually the easiest to eat haha. The moment I regretted only buying 3 >.<

Peach yogurt mochi, 7,000 won

I found this peach yogurt mochi incredibly delicious~~~ The peach itself was sweet with a soft texture that went well with the mochi...^^ Tareudang, the line-up dessert shop on Hwangnidang-gil known for its hwangnam mochi, is a place I'd love to visit again next time I'm in Gyeongju.
