Isn't the weather amazing lately?! The kind of weather that makes you suddenly want to go to the Han River...!🤍 I picked up chicken at Mr. Kim's Chicken, a dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken bites) spot in Jayang Market, and headed straight for the river!

Where is Mr. Kim's Chicken Jayang Market Branch, and when is it open?

Mr. Kim's Chicken Jayang Market Branch is at 44 Ttukseom-ro 49-gil, 1st floor, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, inside Jayang Market. It's open daily 11:00–22:00.

Mr. Kim's Chicken is right inside Jayang Market! Anyone here not know how good market dakgangjeong is?

The first thing I noticed at Mr. Kim's was how cheap it was. Cutting out the bloated distribution margin, frying in clean oil with fresh ingredients — it tastes great AND the price is kind, this is genuinely a chicken shop you want to support haha.

On one side there's chicken that looks pre-fried, and on the other, boneless fried chicken and dakgangjeong.

What we ordered at Mr. Kim's Chicken and what it cost

  • Dakgangjeong, medium spicy (medium) ₩9,000
  • Boneless fried chicken (medium) ₩8,000
  • Pickled radish ₩500
  • Sauces, 3 for ₩500 each

Let me be honest....! The medium size portion is enormous. Two of us couldn't finish everything we ordered lolol.

You can also buy just wings, drumsticks, or thighs separately, and the old-style whole fried chicken is only ₩7,000 a bird — really great value at this Jayang Market chicken spot haha.

How much chicken is in a medium dakgangjeong?

At Mr. Kim's Chicken Jayang Market Branch, one side keeps frying boneless chicken and setting it aside, while the other side makes dakgangjeong to order by weight and piles it high.

After finishing the order before mine, they made my dakgangjeong hahaha. Medium spicy!

They mixed it all up carefully, but don't be shocked, this is the medium size...!!!! Even one piece of chicken is huge, this is nuts.

The sauce looks amazing right...! Sweet with a light spicy kick, the kind you can't stop eating — medium spicy is exactly the right level!!!

I ordered the boneless fried chicken in medium too. They fill it to weight like this, and the portion is genuinely overflowing...

There are 5 kinds of sauce, and you need to order pickled radish and drinks separately!

Can you eat in at Mr. Kim's Chicken?

Mr. Kim's Chicken Jayang Market Branch has a small dining table inside toward the back.

If you want to eat in! They sell draft beer, plus soju and beer, so it looks great for a casual drink at Jayang Market haha. The prices are so kind, it's easy to enjoy without any guilt~~~

A 20-minute walk to Jayang Han River Park and setting up the picnic

I packed it up and came to the Han River hahahaha. These days it feels like the whole world crowds the Han River for picnics~? haha. Gotta do a picnic! Let's enjoy this fleeting weather, this moment ❤️

I also brought along a cheese jalapeño sauce and a cheese mustard sauce haha. I figured the sweet-spicy dakgangjeong would go well with cheese jalapeño, and the fried chicken would pair with cheese mustard haha.

Pickled radish is basically a mid-meal digestive aid, so definitely add it for ₩500~~~

And the most important partner for dakgangjeong and fried chicken? Beer~~🍻

Pick up chicken at Jayang Market and it's about a 20-minute walk straight down to the Han River — the route was perfect! Big props to myself for suggesting we pick up dakgangjeong at Mr. Kim's Chicken, the Jayang Market favorite~~~~ Props to this Han River picnic!!!!

First, let's toast~~~~~~~

Boneless fried chicken with the cheese mustard sauce

I started with the boneless fried chicken. Some pieces were on the smaller side, but overall the size was pretty big hahaha. And there's rice cake in there too haha.

See how it's packed all the way to the bottom? And can you tell how crispy the frying is~~~ haha.

Dipped in cheese mustard like this, the pairing was so good — you really have to eat it with cheese mustard!

Dakgangjeong with the jalapeño cheese sauce

The dakgangjeong portion was genuinely insane....!!!!?? Coated in sauce all the way to the bottom, it was one huge heaping pile hahaha.

The meat was also super tender. You really don't have to worry about it going dry and getting stuck in your throat! Doesn't the chicken look so soft haha.

Topped with the jalapeño cheese sauce, the pairing was genuinely great hahaha.

Dakgangjeong topped with jalapeño cheese sauce

Dakgangjeong can get sickly sweet after a while, right? But going medium spicy cuts that sweetness the first time around, and the spicy-plus-smooth-cheese flavor of the jalapeño cheese sauce catches it a second time. Definitely pair it with the sauce haha.

Ate the fried chicken~ ate the dakgangjeong too~~~ This was literally my first meal of the day so I went absolutely wild eating. (Got sauce all over my face...)

There was quite a bit of rice cake in there too, and it was nice and chewy haha.

Where to sit at Jayang Han River Park

If you're headed to Jayang-dong Han River Park, pick up chicken at Mr. Kim's Chicken, the Jayang Market favorite, on your way haha. The spot we sat at was a prime one too lolol — it's the grassy area in front of Mom's Touch, closer to Jayang Station side lol.

There's a GS convenience store and restrooms right there too! Right in front of Jayang Station, the convenience store line looks like it has 100 people in it, and the restroom line too.... This spot is relatively quiet in comparison~~
