Osong butcher-shop BBQ: German-aged pork and cold noodles, Hanmaeum

This time I visited Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Osong 2 Sandan Branch with my husband as part of a sponsored tasting. I've lived in Osong for a while but this was actually my first visit here! When my husband and I go out for meat, we usually just order one cut — samgyeopsal or mokdeungsal — but this place has a pork half pig set where you can try several cuts at once. So we ordered the pork half pig and gave it a try!

Where is Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Osong 2 Sandan Branch, and when is it open?

Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Osong 2 Sandan Branch is on the 3rd floor of Yeonggwang Plaza, Units 304, 305, 306, 307, at 148 Osongsaengmyeong 7-ro, Osong-eup, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do. It's open Monday through Sunday from 11:30 to 22:00, with a break time from 14:30 to 16:30 (except weekends and holidays).

Where do you park at Yeonggwang Plaza?

There's a dedicated parking lot for the building. The underground parking entrance is next to Deochaeum Pharmacy, so if you're driving, go in that way. We live close by so we just walked over without a car.

What Hanmaeum looks like from outside

The restaurant is on the 3rd floor of Yeonggwang Plaza. The Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang sign stood out even from outside the building, so it was easy to find.

Inside Hanmaeum: back rooms and a kids' play room

It's floor-to-ceiling glass, so you can see the whole interior from outside. Parking registration is done at the counter — you can get up to 2 hours of parking discount.

The meat! That's what caught my eye as soon as I walked in. Huge chunks of meat hanging up front — at first I wondered if it was real meat haha. It really gave off that butcher-shop vibe and immediately grabbed my attention.

The place was really spacious. Lots of regular tables, but there were also separate rooms toward the back. When we visited, several tables were already dining, and it looked like a great spot for group visits too.

Especially for those with kids, whether a place has a play area matters a lot when choosing a BBQ restaurant. Here, there's a dedicated kids' play area off to one side. So it seemed like a good option not just for family meals but also for company dinners or larger group gatherings.

There's also a self-serve bar in case the basic side dishes run low. Lettuce and other wrap greens, onions, scallion shreds, and more were available, along with plates, so you can just take as much as you need.

The restrooms are outside the restaurant, separated for men and women.

Hanmaeum menu and prices: lunch special and kids' dishes

Ordering is done via tablet. The menu is broadly split into beef sets and pork sets.

Looking through the menu, I noticed there's also a separate lunch special. The lunch special can be ordered from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

Beyond grilling meat, this place looks like a good option just for a lunch meal too.

And they even have a kids' menu! Jjajangbap for ₩5,000, miyeokguk for ₩5,000. Sometimes when you take kids to a BBQ restaurant, there isn't much for them to actually eat, but here they have both a play area and a dedicated kids' menu, which I really liked.

What comes in the ₩40,000 half pig: five pork cuts

Since there were two of us, we ordered the pork half pig (₩40,000). It's not just samgyeopsal — the set includes five different cuts all at once: samgyeopsal, ogyeopsal, mokdeungsal, hangjeongsal, and gabrisal. We also ordered soju (₩5,000) and mul-naengmyeon (₩7,000).

The 12 side dishes and self-serve bar

After ordering the meat, the basic side dishes started coming out one by one, and there were so many kinds! Doenjang jjigae, scallion shreds with jolmyeon noodles, geotjeori, lettuce, ssamjang, garlic, sliced chili, pickled radish, bracken fern, perilla leaf pickles, bean sprouts, mayo macaroni salad, and even kimchi jeon! Some BBQ places only give you a handful of side dishes, but here there was so much variety to go along with the meat, which I really liked. Especially the doenjang jjigae — it comes as a basic side but apparently you can even get a refill!

They said if you take part in the review event you get a castella cake sponge as a gift!

German MFG-aged pork: how tender was it really?

The meat came out right away. Having several cuts on one plate made it look really generous. Even in the photos you can tell the meat is on the thick side. The mokdeungsal in particular was quite thick, and once it hit the grill it really had a presence.

On one wall there was a notice saying they'd received Korea's first certification for aging technology from Germany's MFG. Maybe that's why — when we actually tried it, the meat was genuinely tender.

Thick-cut meat can turn tough if you overcook it, but this stayed tender and was easy to eat, and having several cuts together made it fun to compare them one by one. The variety of side dishes like scallion shreds, perilla leaf pickles, and bracken fern was also great to pair with bites of meat in between!

It felt like a shame to just stop after the meat, so we ordered mul-naengmyeon for dessert. After meat, cold noodles are a must, right? Finishing off with a refreshing bowl of mul-naengmyeon was the perfect ending, and the noodles were delicious too.

Is Hanmaeum worth it for BBQ near Osong 2 Sandan?

This was my first visit to Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Osong 2 Sandan Branch, and what stuck with me most was just how spacious the place was. Besides regular tables, there were rooms and a separate play area for kids, making it a good option for family meals or group visits. The wide variety of basic side dishes and the self-serve bar for restocking were also convenient.
