Getting to Eulji Pocha, a bar near Guro Digital Complex Station

After a tough day of overtime, my coworker and I decided to grab drinks near Guro Digital Complex Station and catch up. While searching for a good bar around the station, I found Eulji Pocha Guro Digital Complex Branch and headed there.

It's open year-round with no break time, running from 5pm all the way to 7am the next morning — a proper Guro bar for the whole night.

What Eulji Pocha looks like inside

Eulji Pocha feels like a hotspot from the moment you walk in. Upbeat music and song requests were already playing, and the space is mostly filled with round tables. Plenty of people were already deep in their drinks.

At the far end is a DJ booth labeled Jongno Record, running lively songs and various events. I visited late on a weekday night around 9pm, and since the place is spacious, there was no waiting at all.

Every table can play a no-lose roulette game. We won a drink, though I only remembered while writing this blog post — we never actually used the prize.

First, the basic side snack: colorful puffed corn. This is the snack that a famous chef supposedly raved about. It pairs perfectly with straight soju.

A refreshing somaek (beer-soju mix) with my coworker. We chatted about this and that, drifting into work talk and getting things off our chests.

Since we hadn't eaten dinner and were hungry, we ordered two dishes. Based on the reviews, most people praised the 1++ beef tartare and sundubu kalguksu, so we ordered one of each.

How did the sundubu kalguksu and 1++ beef tartare taste?

Sundubu kalguksu (soft tofu noodle soup), 19,000 won

The spicy sundubu kalguksu (soft tofu noodle soup) arrived, loaded with silky soft tofu, enoki mushrooms, beef brisket, and various other ingredients. It's perfect as a soju side dish, and the spiciness really hits the spot.

The combination of soft tofu and the spicy broth was great — my coworker and I both raved about it and slurped up every last drop of the delicious broth.

1++ beef tartare, 26,000 won

The 1++ beef tartare arrived lightly dusted with cheese powder. With a raw egg yolk as the finishing touch, it looked absolutely delicious. Mixing it all together and popping a bite in — perfect.

The seasoning on the beef tartare was spot on, making it a really tasty drinking snack. My coworker and I both marveled at the chewy texture as we ate.

Song requests, events and what the coins get you

Eulji Pocha has a DJ booth where you can request songs. For a coworker who's about to quit her job soon, I wrote down Soyeon's song "I'm Quitting" as our request.

Events like this pop up fairly often. Pinball games, stopwatch challenges, and more — all bar guests can join in. Unfortunately I've never won anything myself.

You get coins like this when you order food. We ordered several dishes and drinks, and the coins we collected could be used in all kinds of ways — buying snacks, trying the claw machine, and more.

Drop in a coin and you can pick out whichever snack you want. There's a whole variety of old-school nostalgic snacks — Ting-Chok, Apollo, and more. It brought back memories of elementary school for a moment.

You can also use coins to make cotton candy or dalgona (honeycomb candy) at a machine. Just pay with coins and make it yourself right in front of the machine — I made cotton candy, and my coworker made dalgona.

A fluffy cotton candy made from a single scoop of sugar. It became my sweet little side snack to go with the drinks. With all these little events going on, my coworker and I had a really fun time.

I bought a Hae's Chocolic and an Enyak snack, paying 2 coins for them. I also tried the claw machine, but as usual, I lost every round and my coins vanished.

Dessert to finish: ice cream hotteok (sweet pancake), 9,000 won

We ordered ice cream hotteok (sweet pancake) as an extra dessert to wrap things up. A scoop of ice cream on top of a sweet hotteok — cool and sweet, exactly right for dessert.

One more round at the coin noraebang (karaoke)

We had such a fun time drinking and playing at Eulji Pocha that our excitement carried us to a coin karaoke for round two. Thanks to that, my coworker and I had a great time together. I'd love to come back again.
