Apgujeong bakery café with seat toasters: Saengsikppang Option Black

In short

Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black is a fresh milk bread (saengsikppang) bakery café in an alley behind the CGV at Apgujeong Station Exit 3 in Gangnam, Seoul. The order comes as two slices — the 'S bread' blended with sour cream and fresh cream, and the 'D bread' made with 100% dairy cream — plus three jams, toasted at the seat's own toaster outlet, and the strawberry butter jam was the best match. Worth a stop if you want bread eaten hot, straight out of the toaster.

Where is Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black? An alley off Apgujeong Station Exit 3

Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black (압구정생식빵옵션블랙) is a bakery specializing in fresh milk bread, found by walking into the alley behind the CGV near Apgujeong Station Exit 3. I went for an eyebrow retouch and figured I'd make a little Apgujeong outing out of it.

The weather was nice (hot), I was out solo (husband and baby stayed home~), and since I've been obsessed with milk bread ever since going through a phase with Whiteley bread, and we both love it, I promised myself I'd definitely try some and bring some home while I was out.

Walked into the alley and found this dreamy, pretty little bread shop 🍞

'S bread' vs 'D bread': what's the difference?

The signature items at Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black are two types: 'S bread' and 'D bread'. There's a menu banner at the entrance, and there are more drinks and even soup on offer than I expected. A dedicated milk bread shop is already rare enough, and finding one near Apgujeong Station made me so happy haha.

  • 'S' bread — a light loaf made with a blend of sour cream and fresh cream
  • 'D' bread — a rich, buttery loaf made with 100% dairy fresh cream

If you love butter, the 'D' bread is probably going to be your favorite.

The chestnut bread looked good too. It's autumn now, so I'm also craving baked goods with chestnut, sweet potato, and kabocha squash, but today I decided to just try the signature items first! There was a whole row of plush, fluffy loaves lined up. (I was so happy 🤎🤎🤎)

Next to the register, almond cakes, house-made jams, and butter were prettily displayed — the almond cakes were bite-sized, totally my style... I love a petite size 🍞

Drinks, milk options and the look of the café

The drink menu at Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black is fairly diverse too. From my husband's favorite Kyoto matcha latte to the cream latte, and even the TWG tea lineup that I like — so it felt less like a place you just grab bread and go, and more like a café where you can settle in with coffee or tea.

The milk options are pretty thoughtful as well. You can choose lactose-free, soy, oat, or organic oat, so people who are particular about their milk have plenty of choices.

Above all, the sunlight was gorgeous that day. With sunlight streaming in through the big glass windows, the whole space felt bright and warm. I personally love spaces with this much natural light, and just sitting there put me in a good mood. 🤍

Every seat has an outlet set up so you can use the toaster. There's something fun about being able to toast your own bread right at the table ✌️

Two slices and three jams, toasted at your own seat

First, I decided to try the two slices of bread + three jams set. The bread comes fairly thick, with one slice each of 'S bread' and 'D bread', individually packaged.

They set the timer for 2-3 minutes and it just pops up toasted, all on its own! This is how we used to make it as kids~~ You put the bread in the toaster, toast it to your liking, then spread the jam on.

Personally, the strawberry butter jam was my favorite. The sweet strawberry flavor really complemented the warm toasted bread. There was something fun about toasting it yourself rather than just eating plain bread — getting it warm and crisp, like fresh out of the oven, before spreading on the jam.

It comes out perfectly golden brown. The smell of the bread is amazing! It's delicious with jam, and I bet it'd make a great sandwich too.

Is Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black worth going back to?

Overall, Apgujeong Saengsikppang Option Black was a great place to enjoy bread and drinks together, centered around the bread itself. What made it especially fun was being able to toast it right there in the shop, and beyond the bread varieties themselves, browsing the house-made jams, butter, and petite-sized desserts was enjoyable too.

Next time, I definitely want to try the chestnut bread I passed on today. Now that it's the kind of autumn season when I'm especially craving breads with chestnut, sweet potato, and kabocha squash, I think I'll end up stopping by again. 🤎

If you're looking for a good bread café near Apgujeong Station, or want to try toasting fresh milk bread yourself, it's worth a visit.
