Every time I passed by on my way to Byeongjeom Station, the lights always seemed to be off, so I had no idea there was a place here where you could enjoy coffee, cocktails, and whisky together. There's no big sign, so it's easy to miss, but I got a recommendation this time and visited with my husband — and honestly thought, "Wait, there's a place like this here?" 😊

Baiden Coffee Bar sits in an alley near Byeongjeom Station. I was looking for a Byeongjeom café and ended up here, and it struck me as different from the usual cafés you find around Hwaseong. Since it opens in the afternoon, that's probably why it never caught my eye when I passed by earlier in the day. But once I opened the door and stepped inside, it felt completely different from the outside!

It felt cozy, almost like a secret hideout. Unlike the big, flashily decorated cafés, this is a good spot for quietly resting over coffee — great for a date with my husband too.

I ordered the sakerato from the signature menu. The description called it "a sweet iced coffee with a charming creamy texture," and I was so curious what that would actually taste like. My husband picked the monthly special, spice cherry — described as bright cherry and cranberry fruit flavor layered with deep cinnamon and espresso notes, which also had me curious. For dessert, we chose the single-serving tiramisu, made by the owner himself. After we ordered, the owner brought everything to our table personally.

How is the sakerato served, and how does it taste?

My sakerato came out a little differently than expected — served with an empty glass and a shaker, and the owner poured it in for me himself while explaining exactly how to drink it. The crema formed in beautiful layers, and it looked really pretty. 😍

He explained that, like espresso, it's best to drink it quickly while the crema and coffee are still mixed together. My first sip had me thinking, "Wait, this is really coffee?" — it was nothing like the iced coffee I usually imagine. First came the soft, creamy texture, followed by a gentle sweetness that wasn't as strong as I expected. It wasn't a syrupy-sweet coffee so much as a smooth texture with a subtle sweetness layered on top. Once I tasted it, I understood exactly why the menu described it as "creamy." I wanted to sip it slowly and savor it, but as time passed, the creamy texture and the coffee started to separate a bit. That's when I understood why the owner told me to drink it right away. ☕️

We also tried the single-serving tiramisu we ordered together. It felt a bit different from the usual tiramisu — the soft cream and the coffee-soaked sponge stood out. It wasn't overly sweet, which paired nicely with the sakerato. 😊

What does the monthly menu spice cherry taste like?

My husband's spice cherry caught the eye visually right away. A cinnamon stick sat on top, and a large ice cube inside made it look more like a whisky drink than coffee at first glance.

But one sip in, the flavors described on the menu came through clearly. The bright fruitiness of cherry and cranberry hit first, followed by a lingering hint of cinnamon and coffee. It tasted so different from the coffee I usually drink that I thought, "This is a place where you can really explore coffee in different ways."

What to know before visiting Baiden Coffee Bar

Honestly, we couldn't linger long that day because of our kids' pickup time. We had delicious coffee and tiramisu in front of us but had to gulp them down and rush out, which was kind of a shame. 😂 Still, even in that short time, the space felt comfortable and the coffee was unique enough that I want to come back with more time next time, to sit and relax over a slower cup.

One thing to note! The restroom is outside the store, and you need to grab the external keyring to use it. Good to know if you're planning a visit. 😊
