Seongsa-dong family lunch with soybean-dregs sundae soup: Gohyangok
In short
Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk Wondang Branch is a sundae soup (Korean blood sausage soup) restaurant on Goyangdae-ro in Seongsa-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. Over a weekend lunch with a child, the writer ordered spicy sundae soup at 12,000 won, soybean-dregs sundae soup at 11,000 won and a hinoki-steamed platter at 7,000 won, and the country-style sundae and pork kept coming without running out. High ceilings keep the room airy and baby chairs are on hand, so Gohyangok works easily as a family meal.

I was looking for somewhere to eat out with my kid over the weekend and ended up at a Seongsa-dong favorite, Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk Wondang Branch. A place a sundae soup (Korean blood sausage soup) devotee would approve of — genuinely satisfying, and I'm 100000% coming back. A real Wondang sundae soup spot.

There's a wide parking lot right in front, so even new drivers don't need to worry! If you're looking for a Deogyang-gu sundae soup restaurant, come to Gohyangok. A genuinely no-regrets spicy sundae soup spot.

It runs from 10 am to 10 pm with no break time or closed days. On weekends it opens from 6 am, so I'd also recommend it for breakfast before a Seooreung visit or an early Seongsa-dong meal.
Inside Gohyangok: high ceilings and an airy dining room
The first thing I noticed walking into Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk Wondang Branch was the high ceiling. Sundae soup places usually feel crowded and a bit stuffy, but here the high ceiling made the space feel much roomier and airier. Even during a busy weekend lunch, I could eat comfortably without feeling cramped.

The staff and owner were genuinely kind. Visiting with a kid means there's a lot to juggle, but they anticipated what we needed and greeted us so warmly — it kept the whole meal pleasant.

We ordered the signature spicy sundae soup and the soybean-dregs sundae soup.
Side dishes: somyeon noodles tossed with yeolmu kimchi
The basic side dishes were set out. If you need more, you can freely grab them from the self-serve bar, which was great. I'm usually not a big fan of yeolmu (young radish) kimchi, but one bite in, I was won over by how refreshing and crunchy it was...! Gukbap usually comes with diced radish kimchi by default, but Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk is truly a yeolmu kimchi place.

I mixed the complimentary thin noodles with the yeolmu kimchi... it was basically its own yeolmu noodle dish. Honestly better than some dedicated noodle shops, haha 😂👍
Hinoki platter, 7,000 won: boiled pork and country-style sundae

The hinoki mixed platter we ordered as a side was ₩7,000. I was surprised at how generous the portion was. A hinoki (Japanese cypress) steamer lined with bean sprouts and vegetables, plus boiled pork and native-style sundae.
The meat was tender and soft, with no off smell at all — genuinely fresh. It was a great dish to share with my kid too.

This would make a perfect side for soju, right? Good price, great composition — it felt like a whole standalone dish.
How does the soybean-dregs sundae soup (11,000 won) taste?

The dish that exceeded my expectations was the soybean-dregs sundae soup. Honestly, sundae soup with soybean dregs sounded a bit unusual. But once I tried it, it worked far better than I expected — my husband, who loves biji (soybean dregs), loved it too.

The soybean dregs made the broth much creamier and nuttier, blending naturally with the rich flavor of the sundae soup. The nutty note from the biji softened what could've felt heavy, giving it a distinctive appeal. If you usually eat regular sundae soup, this is worth trying at least once.
Spicy sundae soup, 12,000 won: an honest verdict

Here's my honest take on Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk's signature dish, the spicy sundae soup. It's spicy as advertised, but not just heat — the first spoonful shows off a deep, rich broth, and the sharp kick builds as you keep eating. Truly excellent... the kind of spicy sundae soup a devotee would approve of.

It's packed with native-style sausage, lean meat, and head meat. No off smell at all — even people sensitive to smell could eat it comfortably.
My husband and I are pretty big eaters — we've been known to each order our own chicken. Even for us big eaters, the contents just kept coming no matter how much we ate. I was amazed by how generous Gohyangok is. Plenty of sausage, meat, and offal — it felt like it never ran out.

Each bowl has around 4-5 pieces of sausage, and since it's native-style rather than glass-noodle sundae, it tasted even better. Soaked in the broth, it was bursting with savory flavor.

Usually with sundae soup you get plenty of broth but not enough filling — here it was the opposite. One bowl alone was seriously filling. I get why so many people come here for the taste and generous portions. Among the many sundae soup places I've tried, this spicy sundae soup is top tier for me.

Is Gohyangok good with kids? Baby chairs and room to spare
Baby and kids' chairs: yes. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a family dining spot with a kid, or if you're planning a Seongsa-dong or Seooreung outing or drive and need a place to stop for a meal. With baby chairs and plenty of space, it was easy to visit with my child.

Definitely order the hinoki mixed platter! The bean sprouts underneath were delicious, and wrapping everything with the accompanying seasoned side made it feel like a main dish rather than a side.

Seongsa-dong favorite Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk Wondang Branch delivered on every front — a comfortable space thanks to the high ceilings, kind staff, generous portions, and delicious sundae soup. This was my honest review of the essential spicy sundae soup spot, Gohyangok Eolkeun Sundaeguk Wondang Branch.
