Located in Cheongju Technopolis, Baeksan Hwarro is a pork BBQ restaurant that's comfortable and delicious for company dinners, family outings, and meals with friends.

I visited a little early, but true to its reputation as a Technopolis favorite, people started filling up the seats pretty quickly.

Parking and location of Baeksan Hwarro in Songjeol-dong
There's a dedicated parking lot right next to Baeksan Hwarro Cheongju that fits up to 14 cars, so no need to worry if you're driving.

What does 48-72 hour dry-aged pork taste like?
One reason Baeksan Hwarro has such a good reputation is that they dry-age their quality pork for 48 to 72 hours. That supposedly gives it a more tender texture, deeper flavor, and richer juiciness — I was already looking forward to it.

They select the meat straight from the farm and serve it after aging it to top quality. There are side dishes to go with it too.

Self-serve corner and side dishes at Baeksan Hwarro
There's a self-serve corner where you can freely grab tableware, lettuce wraps, and other side dishes you need.

The side dishes were set out in a variety that pairs well with meat, and when we ran low the owner brought more when we asked. And I was already excited about the specially made brazier and charcoal here.

Ordering the pork jowl: the cut looks different
I ordered pork jowl. It looked delicious just from the visual alone. You don't find meat this good-looking everywhere.

The interior is spacious with quite a lot of seating, which makes it clear why so many people use this place for company dinners — it's a genuine local favorite.

On top of that, they served mushrooms, garlic, and shishito peppers along with the meat as a set, which made me even more excited. A great combination to eat alongside the pork.

Next time I'll order the mixed platter and try the other cuts too. There was a clear reason my friend recommended this place.

There's a wide variety of meat, and you can pair it with the side dishes of pot rice and barley kimchi fried rice — so make sure to eat a full meal too.

The thick-cut meat was full of juice, with no off smell, and the juiciness meant I could eat it without any greasy heaviness.

Self-grilling at the table, with more meat in return
Among the many BBQ restaurants in Technopolis, this one is clearly number one for good reason. In the past they used to grill the meat for you directly, but now that it's self-service, the owner gives you more meat in return.

So there's no real downside, haha. Still, when it's not busy, the owner comes around to check on the tables. Thanks to the kind owner and staff, the meal felt even more enjoyable.

With this many delicious pork BBQ restaurants in Songjeol-dong, Cheongju, it makes sense that so many people are already regulars here.

It was my first visit too, but I plan to come back often whenever I'm craving meat.

Maybe thanks to the special brazier, a subtle charcoal aroma blended with the meat's juices, and the moment I took a bite, "wow, this is really good" just came out on its own.
Wow, this is really good.

Beef tartare, the soju side dish to order
I ordered yukhoe (Korean-style beef tartare), a great side dish to pair with soju. The visual on this one is truly a work of art.

They serve the egg yolk separately, and mixing it into the tartare makes it perfect. The owner thoughtfully brought disposable gloves too, so I could mix it comfortably with my hands.

Eating the tartare together with the pear, cheese, and pickled radish that came with it, before I knew it the soju bottles had piled up empty.

Alternating between the tartare and the pork. Perfect. A meal this delicious is about as perfect as it gets.

Free cheonggukjang with every meal
Cheonggukjang comes as a complimentary service item. It's even better mixed with rice and eaten alongside the meat.
