Sharosu-gil gyukatsu and steak lunch with a friend, sauce last: Izawa
In short
Izawa Sharosugil Branch is a Japanese pork cutlet and gyukatsu (beef cutlet) restaurant on Sharosu-gil near Seoul National University Station in Gwanak, Seoul. Two friends ordered one gyukatsu and one steak for lunch, tasted each piece plain before dipping it in sauce, and found the batter thin enough to stay crisp without tasting greasy. Izawa Sharosugil Branch works well as a lunch stop before moving on to the cafés along Sharosu-gil.

Hi everyone :)

Why Izawa Sharosugil Branch for lunch on Sharosu-gil?
Izawa Sharosugil Branch is a Japanese-style tonkatsu (pork cutlet) and gyukatsu place on Sharosu-gil, walkable from Seoul National University Station. Today I've got a review after enjoying some really good katsu near the station <3
This time we decided to grab lunch on Sharosu-gil and, while looking around for where to eat, ended up at Izawa Sharosugil Branch :) It's easy to get to from Seoul National University Station, so it seemed like a good pick for anyone looking for somewhere to eat on Sharosu-gil.

I tend to love tonkatsu, so as soon as I saw the menu that day, the pork cutlet immediately caught my eye.

What is the dining room like at Izawa Sharosugil Branch?
Walking into Izawa Sharosugil Branch, the overall vibe was clean and tidy, which made it comfortable to eat with a friend. Sharosu-gil is a spot college students flock to, so it felt like a good, easy place to grab a casual lunch or dinner with friends.

Especially if you're meeting someone near Seoul National University Station and want a meal that's filling but not too heavy, tonkatsu is just right!

One gyukatsu and one steak: how did they taste?
At Izawa Sharosugil Branch we ordered one gyukatsu and one steak! We sat down and took our time looking over the menu. Tonkatsu really is a dish that gets your appetite going just by looking at it, haha. The cutlet came out fried up golden and crispy, and it looked so good I took plenty of photos :)

With the first bite, you notice the crispy texture right away, and the inside was nice and soft. Tonkatsu can feel a bit greasy if the batter's too thick, but this one was easy to eat all the way through without feeling heavy.

Tasting the gyukatsu plain first, sauce after
Tonkatsu is delicious plain, but it also takes on a different character with sauce, so it's nice to add it based on your taste. When I eat tonkatsu, I usually skip the sauce at first and try it plain.

Eating it that way lets you taste the meat itself and feel the texture of the batter more clearly, so personally I like trying it plain first :) Then when I add the sauce, it gets savory and salty in a different, equally delicious way.

Above all, tonkatsu is more filling than you'd expect, which makes it a really solid lunch option.

Where to go after lunch: cafés on Sharosu-gil
If you're planning to hit up a café on Sharosu-gil too, eating tonkatsu at Izawa Sharosugil Branch first and then heading to a café makes for a great lunch course. It's also a solid, dependable spot to eat if you're meeting a friend or on a date while exploring Sharosu-gil near Seoul National University Station :)
Since it's a neighborhood full of college students, it's worth a visit if you're looking for somewhere easy to grab a casual meal with friends. Personally, I love tonkatsu, so I had a really satisfying meal that day :)
Sharosu-gil also has tons of cafés nearby, so it's easy to head straight to one after eating — that's one of the perks. If you're like me and enjoy the combo of a good meal followed by a café, I'd recommend exploring Sharosu-gil whenever you've got a day planned near Seoul National University Station :)

So that's my review of Izawa Sharosugil Branch, which I visited while looking for good tonkatsu near Seoul National University Station! If you're looking for a clean, solid meal near the station or trying to figure out what to eat with a friend on Sharosu-gil, the tonkatsu is worth trying. I left the meal happy and full :)
