Sokcho ramen near Museum X: hiyashi chuka and chashudon, Ichiba

In short

Ichiba Ramen is a ramen restaurant on Jungang-ro in Sokcho, Gangwon, a one-minute walk from Sokcho Museum X. On a weekday visit at 3pm during summer vacation, the order was special tonkotsu ramen at 15,000 won, hiyashi chuka cold ramen at 13,000 won and chashudon at 5,500 won, with no wait at all because Ichiba Ramen has no break time. The rich tonkotsu broth, springy cold ramen and chashu-loaded rice bowl each tasted so different that sharing all three was the right call.

I'm Ttutubi, traveling around Sokcho on summer vacation 🩷 Today after checking out Museum X's Sokcho branch, I was trying to figure out what to eat when I suddenly craved salty, clean-tasting Japanese-style ramen 👀 Turns out there's a great ramen place right nearby, so I went straight over. Here's my honest review of Ichiba Ramen, a top ramen spot in Sokcho.

It's just a 1-minute walk from Sokcho Museum X, so it's the perfect route if you're planning to visit the museum too (❁´◡`❁)

Inside Ichiba Ramen: bar seating and an open kitchen

Ichiba Ramen is a clean, tidy ramen specialty shop. The interior has an overall neat vibe, and with the bar-style seating, it genuinely felt like being at a ramen shop in Japan 🤩

The open kitchen gave me extra confidence about hygiene, and I could watch the cooking process too, haha. The atmosphere seems great for eating solo but would also work well for a date.

No break time: is there a wait at 3pm on a weekday?

One great thing about Ichiba Ramen is that it operates with no break time. Even when lunch or dinner timing feels a bit awkward, you can visit without worrying about a closed kitchen. We came on a weekday around 3pm and got seated right away, no waiting.

You order and pay easily through a kiosk. After much deliberation, Ttutubi's picks were

Special Tonkotsu Ramen ₩15,000 / Hiyashi Chuka (cold ramen) ₩13,000 / Chashudon ₩5,500

You can also add extra noodles or toppings, so you can customize it to your taste ☝️

We didn't wait long before our order came out! Writing this is making my mouth water all over again. The visuals were just too good,,, (*/ω\*)😋✨

Special tonkotsu ramen, 15,000 won: how is the broth?

Special Tonkotsu Ramen 🍜 The first to arrive! I stirred the minced garlic on the spoon into the broth and took my first sip — instead of anything strong or aggressive, it was clean yet deep in flavor. The broth was on the richer side, almost like a really good beef bone soup,,, anyway, genuinely delicious ㅠㅠㅠ

It's clean but deep at the same time, so people of any age can enjoy it comfortably!

The meat especially was satisfying — tender, without any chewiness or gamey smell. The egg was a perfect soft-boiled with a runny yolk! Even without extra toppings, the portion felt plenty filling, haha.

Why hiyashi chuka cold ramen, 13,000 won, was the top pick

Hiyashi Chuka (cold ramen) 🧊 I honestly wasn't expecting much from this one, but it blew past expectations! This ended up being Ttutubi's number one pick,,, 🩷

It was a cool, tangy soy-sauce-based ramen, and the noodles stayed chewy without going soft at all. With how hot the day was, slurping this down cold felt amazing.

Chashudon, 5,500 won: is it worth adding as a side?

Chashudon 🥩 If you come to Ichiba Ramen, definitely try the chashudon, piled high with chashu and green onions. It's the perfect side to pair with the ramen broth, and adding chashudon completes the meal, haha.

Each of the three dishes had such a distinct charm that it's best to order one of each and share. Honestly, I couldn't give up any single one of them, haha.

Is Ichiba Ramen in Sokcho worth a visit?

Everything at Ichiba Ramen felt soft and savory overall. The chashu especially was so good that I want to come back for another ramen visit 😋 With great taste, generous portions, friendly service, and a comfortable space all in one, Ichiba Ramen is a top pick for ramen in Sokcho! If you're looking for good restaurants in Sokcho, Sokcho-Goseong, or hidden local spots, I highly recommend 🩷Ichiba Ramen🩷.
