Dog-friendly snow crab dinner with ocean-view seating: Hanggu Hwareo

Today I'm sharing the review that was basically the main event of this Sokcho trip — the snow crab dinner haha

We went to Daepohang near our accommodation, and this is my review of Hanggu Hwareo (항구활어), a Daepohang snow crab spot that's dog-friendly and has an ocean view!!

The vibe of the Daepohang raw fish restaurant street

There are sooo~~ many raw fish restaurants along the Daepohang street! Even though peak season had passed, it was still packed with people that day!!

Hanggu Hwareo, a raw fish restaurant at Daepohang in Sokcho, was even better because you can enjoy this ocean view while eating

There's a live fish tank right behind the seats, so you can enjoy fresh raw fish and crab!

Ordering the ₩170,000 snow crab E-course

Here's the menu at Hanggu Hwareo, a Sokcho snow crab spot! There are various set menus, so you can pick according to your group size and taste haha. We ordered

Snow crab E-course ₩170,000 / Chamisul soju ₩5,000 x N / Fried rice ₩3,000

I liked that the spoons and chopsticks came hygienically wrapped like this

Banchan and sashimi — a table-breaking spread

It really comes out like the table's about to collapse haha, and I couldn't even fit it all in the photos!! From kimchi pancake to all sorts of side dishes, the spread was so varied~!

There was so much to snack on that we could easily clear a whole bottle of soju before the crab even arrived

The sashimi comes out pretty generously too haha. Three different kinds! And even pricey squid sashimi came out, so I told myself I'd have to dive into the drinks. hahahaha

Croquettes and fish cutlets came out too><. My fried-food-loving partner demolished them instantly

The sashimi was really fresh, thick, and chewy — I could see why Daepohang in Sokcho is famous for raw fish restaurants!!

We wrapped it in lettuce and ate it too haha

Snow crab yield and that ocean-view open-air feeling

And then the snow crab arrived, and the yield was great too. It came already fully cleaned and prepped, so it was super easy to eat!!!

Eating with the outdoor breeze on my face felt totally like an open-air pojangmacha — eating snow crab while looking at the sea, this combo just isn't fair, ㅠㅠㅠ. It really felt like a vacation, and just sitting there made me happy

The crab meat was so sweet~ and rich,,, ah, is this the flavor that makes people money???

We also enjoyed a full mouthful of the plump claw meat

The staff were also really kind!!! They took good care of whatever we needed while we ate, so the meal felt really pleasant

See how packed the meat is????? Snow crab isn't exactly a cheap food, so if the yield is bad it feels so unfair — but here, both the spread and the yield were worth every won!!

Crab innards fried rice and the finishing stew

Everyone, look at these innards ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ. Scooping up a big spoonful of this really felt like having everything in the world

Dipping crab meat into the innards is the ultimate combo, right?? The soju just kept going down and down

Not eating fried rice with those innards? Guilty as charged. So we immediately ordered fried rice too haha. Fried rice cooked with the richness of the crab innards was a flavor beyond words!!!

After finishing the crab, we ended with spicy stew! Everything except the fried rice is included in the course!!

Eating a lot of crab can feel a bit heavy!!! One spoonful of hot, spicy broth completely cleared away the richness from the crab and sashimi we'd eaten before. Eating crab and looking out at the sea while traveling in Sokcho — that day, honestly, nothing was missing
