I went on a weekend outing partly to shop, and ended up at a Yeoju Outlets restaurant that's become famous by word of mouth. It's right near Kangwon Country Club, so a lot of golfers stop by before or after a round. It's especially known as a beef spot, so I went in with high expectations.

Where is Namyeoju Baechu Doenjang-guk Sukseong Gogi-jip, and where do you park?

Namyeoju Baechu Doenjang-guk Sukseong Gogi-jip is at 151 Ganam-ro, Ganam-eup, Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, and there's a dedicated lot right in front, so parking was really easy. Pulling up, the clean, sizeable building caught my eye right away. Even the sign gave off a real pride in the beef, which got my expectations up even more.

Fitting for a restaurant near a golf course, there was a sign for a pretty wild event offered if you score an eagle or a hole-in-one. Felt like the perfect spot to stop by for a celebration after a round.

Inside the Yeoju restaurant and its self-serve banchan corner

Walking into Namyeoju Baechu Doenjang-guk Sukseong Gogi-jip, the ventilation was clean and well set up, and the tables were spaced out and tidy — a great spot for a family meal or a group gathering.

On one side of the hall there was a neatly organized self-serve banchan (side dish) corner. It was kept carefully dust-free, so I could use it without worry, and I could just help myself to more without any awkwardness if I ran low — really nice.

What side dishes can you help yourself to?

A gorgeous table setting came together. Neat side dishes and fresh beef all in one place made for an incredibly hearty-looking spread — good! Seeing the carefully prepared table, I felt certain I'd found the right Yeoju Outlets restaurant.

Clean, crisp baek-kimchi (white kimchi), gungchae-namul jangajji (pickled stem lettuce) with its delightfully crunchy texture, and thinly sliced pickled red pepper strips. Eating these between bites of beef cleared my palate nicely!

Scallion salad tossed in chili flake seasoning

The scallion salad tossed in chili flake seasoning with thinly sliced fresh scallions was great too! The mild sharpness of the scallion and the savory seasoning worked together beautifully, giving off a nice fragrance.

The signature cabbage doenjang-guk (soybean paste soup)

Namyeoju Baechu's signature cabbage doenjang-guk (soybean paste soup) hit my nose with its savory aroma first. It's simmered clear and clean rather than heavy-handed, so I kept coming back for more spoonfuls throughout the meal. The warm, deep broth that settles your stomach was truly something.

How the glass-wine vending machine works

A red vending machine standing on one side of the restaurant caught my eye. It's a system where you can easily order a glass of wine to your taste through the touchscreen. Pairing a glass with the quality beef sounds like a great, low-pressure idea!

Water-aged beef, seared at the table by the owner

And now, today's star — the aged beef! The bright red color and delicate marbling drew an instant gasp from me. Even just from the thick cut, you could tell the quality was top-notch. Having gone through water-aging, the texture looked even more tender and the flavor more concentrated — my mouth was watering just looking at it.

As two thick chunks of beef hit the well-heated cast-iron pan, a satisfying sizzle rang out — ugh, so good. Thanks to the intense heat, the surface cooked quickly and the savory beefy aroma was incredible.

The owner grills the beef himself, and he's a total veteran at it. He sears the outside crispy while keeping the juices locked in — I thought the pan was so hot it would burn, but he grilled it perfectly.

Cutting it into bite-sized cubes revealed the bright red interior, making my mouth water even more — the cut surface gets just a touch more heat from the pan to finish it off! Just looking at the glossy, moist beef made me happy...

Maldon salt and grilled wasabi with the beef

First I tried a piece dipped lightly in just Maldon salt, and a rich burst of juice filled my mouth. No toughness at all — it practically melted after just a couple of chews. The heavy, deep flavor of the beef itself and its clean umami were completely intact — genuinely moving, ugh.

This time I piled on some sharp grilled wasabi and popped it in my mouth in one bite. The wasabi's kick cut right through the beef's richness — felt like I could eat this endlessly, ugh. The rich meaty aroma filling my mouth combined with the clean finish was fantastic.

Why you should order the hangover ramyeon for dessert

After finishing all the beef, you have to order the hangover ramyeon (instant noodle soup) in the cast-iron pan. They simmer it with the leftover beef fat, and it's rich and so, so good.

The owner even puts on a little show, lifting up the perfectly chewy noodles with tongs — what a sense of showmanship! Spicy and so delicious. The broth especially was rich and thick, an art form. No matter how full you are, you absolutely have to order the hangover ramyeon.

The owner truly knows food! He also prepared kimchi and crunchy pickled danmuji (yellow radish) to eat alongside the ramyeon.

Is Namyeoju Baechu Doenjang-guk Sukseong Gogi-jip worth a visit?

From the tender texture of the top-grade aged beef to the hangover ramyeon, everything was delicious. If you're looking for a Yeoju Outlets restaurant, this is a 100% recommendation. I was exhausted from all the walking at the outlets, but I properly recharged here!! If you're after a hearty, delicious meal before or after Yeoju Outlets shopping, or after a round at Kangwon CC, definitely come here.
