Cheongju ramen restaurant with 3-egg deluxe tonkotsu: Myeonsikdang

Myeonsikdang on the first floor of Jiwel City, Cheongju: lunch straight after a skincare treatment

Today's lunch was at Myeonsikdang Jiwel City, on the 1st floor of Jiwel City in Cheongju. It was Dam-i's turn for her treatment, so she got her aesthetic done at Areumhada on the 3rd floor of Jiwel City, and the moment she came out — she was hungry haha.

"Mom, I'm hungry~"

When I asked what she wanted to eat, Dam-i picked the place right on the 1st floor — Myeonsikdang Jiwel City! No need to travel anywhere, just head straight downstairs, which worked for me and for hungry Dam-i haha. Today's lunch was Dam-i's pick.

We got the treatment done on the 3rd floor and came straight down to the 1st. Being able to get a treatment and sort out lunch in the same building made things really convenient.

It's also a great spot to swing by without much hassle if you're shopping at Jiwel City or looking for lunch near Hyundai Department Store.

What the room and seating are like at Myeonsikdang Jiwel City

Walking inside, the place had a cozy, neatly arranged atmosphere.

There were 2-top and 4-top tables, plus spots that looked good for eating solo, so it'd work fine for a solo lunch too.

Since Dam-i said she was hungry, we grabbed a table first and started reading through the menu haha.

Myeonsikdang menu and prices

With a name like Myeonsikdang (noodle restaurant), I assumed it would only have noodles, but the menu turned out to be more varied than expected. Ramen, soba, udon, all the way to rice bowls and katsu, so it was easy for a mom and daughter with different tastes to each find something.

• Karaage curry rice bowl ₩9,500 — tender boneless fried chicken served with spicy curry sauce
• Tonkotsu ramen, regular ₩8,400 — chewy noodles in a long-simmered broth, with soft-boiled egg and chashu
• Mozzarella cheese katsu 2pc ₩5,900 — a nicely priced side to pair with a main dish

The mozzarella cheese katsu 2pc was ₩5,900, so ordering it as a side alongside a main dish wasn't much of a financial burden.

What we ordered at Myeonsikdang Jiwel City

Dam-i picked the karaage curry rice bowl, and we also ordered the mozzarella cheese katsu 2pc to share. And I went with the tonkotsu ramen!

Deluxe tonkotsu ramen: 3 eggs and plenty of pork

Since I was eating anyway, I went for the deluxe haha. Tonkotsu ramen deluxe.

The moment the food arrived, I thought, glad I went with the deluxe haha. With 3 whole eggs and a generous pile of meat on top, it looked hearty just from the sight of it.

Worth ordering the deluxe haha. But once I tasted it, what I really loved wasn't the toppings — it was the broth. The broth was seriously so good. Savory with a deep flavor, one spoonful led to another, and I kept going back for more.

Eating the chewy noodles with the broth, and mixing in the meat and eggs in between, made for a pretty filling bowl. Dam-i picked the place, but somehow I ended up the more excited one haha.

Karaage curry rice bowl, 9,500 won

What Dam-i picked was the karaage curry rice bowl. It's rice and curry topped with boneless fried chicken, so it looked like a good pick for kids who love curry too. At ₩9,500, it's also worth remembering if you're looking for a lunch option under ₩10,000 at Jiwel City.

Above all, today it wasn't Mom's recommendation but hungry Dam-i's own pick haha.

Mozzarella cheese katsu, 2 pieces for 5,900 won: the side that worked

Since the curry rice bowl alone felt a bit short, we also ordered the mozzarella cheese katsu 2pc. At ₩5,900, it's a bit much to order as a second main, but it made a great side to add on when you want just a little more.

Taking a bite of ramen, then a piece of cheese katsu, then some curry rice bowl, sharing pieces back and forth — it worked really well for the two of us eating together.

Why this Myeonsikdang lunch was better because Dam-i chose it

We didn't come today searching out a famous restaurant on purpose — we ended up at Myeonsikdang after coming down from Dam-i's aesthetic treatment because of one "Mom, I'm hungry" haha. But the menu turned out more varied than expected and the prices weren't a burden, so it's worth remembering next time I'm hunting for a good-value restaurant in Cheongju.

Above all, the tonkotsu ramen broth was totally my thing. I ordered the deluxe, so I got to enjoy plenty of egg and meat too — a properly filling meal.
