Today I'm bringing you a review of a hidden-gem Korean bar in Dong-gu, Gwangju that nails both the mood and the food — Jumak Inho (주막인호) ✨ The signature dishes are on a totally different level from a typical bar, and combined with the emotional, cozy atmosphere, I was impressed the whole meal!
Where is Jumak Inho, and what are its hours?
Jumak Inho is located at 161-3 Geumnam-ro, Dong-gu, Gwangju, South Korea, on the 1st floor left-side shop. It's open from 11:00 to 22:00, with a break time from 14:00 to 17:00, last order at 20:30, and it's closed on Sundays.

What is the atmosphere like inside Jumak Inho?
The moment I stepped into Jumak Inho, warm, deeply emotional lighting welcomed me! The space blends the cozy, comfortable feel of a traditional Korean tavern (jumak) with a subtle modern touch.

It's not overly loud, so it's perfect for quiet conversation, making it a great atmosphere for enjoying drinks with friends or a partner.

They also sell gukbap (rice and soup) at lunch, I noticed.

What we ordered at Jumak Inho: chilled pork jowl, dak-jeon, sundubu jjigae and a non-alcoholic highball
This time we ordered Jumak Inho's signature recommended dishes — chilled pork jowl, dak-jeon (pan-fried chicken), sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew), and a refreshing non-alcoholic highball!

The highball came with a basic side snack that looked like nurungji (crispy scorched rice) crackers — so much my style.

Chilled pork jowl (hangjeongsal naeng-jeyuk)
The chilled pork jowl came out sliced thin and neat, with absolutely no gamey smell! The ratio of the pork jowl's signature savory fat layer to the lean meat was perfect — it looked glossy just sitting there.

Served chilled, it had a springy, chewy texture, and layering on the accompanying sauce and side dishes made it endlessly moreish.

No gamey taste at all — the more you chew, the more the clean, savory flavor bursts.

Sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew)
It came out in a stone pot, bubbling with soft, silky tofu and broth. The deep, rich broth had a spicy kick added in, making it an essential soup dish that balances out the richer, oilier dishes!

Dak-jeon (pan-fried chicken)
This is Jumak Inho's specialty that's hard to find anywhere else — dak-jeon (pan-fried chicken)! It came out golden and crispy, with a savory aroma that hits you right away.

Crispy like a cracker on the outside and packed with moist chicken meat on the inside, it's a joy to chew. Dipped lightly in the special seasoning sauce that comes with it, it's a perfect match as a highball snack!

The non-alcoholic highball
A non-alcoholic highball lets people who can't drink well, or who drove, fully enjoy the atmosphere! It wasn't artificially sweet but refreshing and crisp, pairing wonderfully with the sweet, crunchy dishes.

Tips for making the most of Jumak Inho
- Great pairing order: take a bite of the chewy chilled pork jowl, then dip the crispy dak-jeon in the special sauce, and finish with a sip of the spicy sundubu jjigae broth — a fantastic four-course combo that never gets old!
- Highly recommend the non-alcoholic highball: if you can't drink alcohol but still want to enjoy the mood, definitely pair it with the non-alcoholic highball.
