Dongmyo Market: a wine pub that works for dinner and a drink
Dongmyo Market is a wine pub at 17-10 Jongno 54-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, about 188m from Dongmyo Station Exit 6. Now that I'm in my twenties, picking a meetup spot has gotten weirdly particular. Just eating and leaving feels a little lacking, but a place where drinking is the whole point feels like too much. A spot with a real food menu that's also fine for a drink — that's what I was looking for in Dongmyo, and Dongmyo Market was what I found.
On the map it's about a 3-minute walk. Close enough to count as right by the station, no argument there.
But there was a first obstacle here.

How to find Dongmyo Market from Dongmyo Station Exit 6
Out Exit 6 of Dongmyo Station, you have to go behind Season Building and into the alley to the right of Dongmyo-jip. I'd carelessly assumed that being close to the station meant it would be right in front of me. The distance is short, but it's tucked inside an alley, so if it's your first time, don't close the map app too early.
I trusted the number 188m and tried to play human navigator, only to pull my phone back out at the last alley. It's a little humbling to fail at wayfinding within 200m of Dongmyo, but admitting it quickly matters more when food is waiting.

How big is the menu at this self-service wine pub?
True to its name, Dongmyo Market is less a standard restaurant and more a self-service wine pub where you enjoy food and drinks casually. It's not just wine, either — there's beer and soju, and the food menu is fairly wide.

It's not a menu that stops at a few pasta dishes, either. There's seafood butter pasta, whole bacon garlic cream pasta, beef brisket ragu tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes), even bacon kimchi fried rice. In February 2024 it was even featured with its seafood tteokbokki on episode 303 of tvN's 'Amazing Saturday.'
But my table skipped past the TV-famous dish that day.

What we ordered at Dongmyo Market and what it cost
I ordered cream ragu pasta (₩18,000), pork chop (₩18,000), Johnsonville mash (₩12,000), and a drink (₩2,000). All four together came to exactly ₩50,000.
With four dishes in front of you, you naturally start ranking them in your head. I started with the cream ragu pasta.

Cream ragu pasta, 18,000 won: more meat than cream
Dongmyo Market's cream ragu pasta is ₩18,000. The word 'cream' made me expect something soft from the first bite, but the ragu keeps the flavor anchored. The sauce isn't the type that just lightly coats the noodles — it comes along when you lift the strands.

On the first bite, the soft texture of the cream hits first. Chew two or three times and the meat comes through between the springy noodles, and after that the ragu's savory depth lingers. If you're someone who worries cream pasta gets heavy toward the end, this meaty note does a lot of work.
Here I broke a small rule of mine.
I have a personal principle of not attacking one dish too fast when I've got several to get through, but I kept scraping up the cream ragu sauce anyway. You shouldn't burn too much energy on the first batter when other food is still waiting — same logic as not piling your first buffet plate with fried rice.
Pork chop, 18,000 won: the dish that resets the meal
Dongmyo Market's pork chop is also ₩18,000. At first I figured it was just a meat dish to sit beside the pasta, but it had real presence.

I liked that the texture of the outside and inside of the meat didn't finish in one bite. The first chew brings the seared surface, then the tender flesh underneath follows. Add the sauce on top and the flavor builds in stages over the course of one piece.

Going from a saucy dish like the cream ragu pasta straight into the pork chop completely flips the texture. After the soft noodles, really chewing into the meat breaks the rhythm of the meal for a second.
And that kind of thing matters more than you'd think!

If you order dishes with a similar texture from start to finish, your mouth gets tired before your stomach fills up. That day, the cream ragu pasta and the pork chop had clearly split roles.
What is Johnsonville mash, 12,000 won?
Johnsonville mash is ₩12,000, and the name alone made it the dish I was most curious about. Think mashed potato for the 'mash' part.

Add sausage to that, and it becomes a dish that pulls you in a different direction from the pasta and pork chop.

Potato isn't something you bite down hard on. The soft, giving texture comes first when pressed with your tongue, and then the springy snap of the sausage follows right after. It starts soft, moves into the sausage's bounce, and circles back to the potato's cozy texture.
Aren't I usually the type to barely touch a side dish because I'm too busy with the main?

But that day was different. A bite of pasta, then the mash; a piece of pork chop, then back to the mash again. All three dishes were so different in flavor and texture that switching between them was genuinely fun.
Seating, private rooms and pets at Dongmyo Market
In the end, what made Dongmyo Market good was exactly this range of options.

For a date, you could go with wine; with friends, beer or soju. With a real food menu, you don't have to treat it as just a 'second-round bar.' The hall takes reservations from a single person, and there's a separate room suited to 5–8 people, so there's an option even for bigger groups. Being pet-friendly is another point in its favor.

Parking and opening hours
If you're thinking of driving, though, there's something to check. The listing says there's no parking on-site. On the flip side, being about 188m from Dongmyo Station Exit 6 makes it easy to reach by public transport. Given it's a place for a drink too, coming by subway is the more comfortable call.

Worth checking the hours before you go, too. As currently posted, it's open Monday to Thursday 17:00–24:00, Friday and Saturday 17:00–1:00 the next day, and Sunday 17:00–23:00 — a good window for a dinner meetup.

Picking a dinner spot in Dongmyo took ten minutes; getting rid of the choice took a lot less.
