Why Katsu Monster Myeonmok for lunch near Seoil University?
Picking a lunch spot near Seoil University can honestly be a bit of a puzzle.
Something light feels a bit unsatisfying, but something too heavy is a lot for a weekday lunch — and that's when tonkatsu (pork cutlet) comes to mind. Today I'm introducing Katsu Monster Myeonmok, a good reference point for anyone hunting for Seoil University restaurants or lunch tonkatsu in Myeonmok-dong.

It's also easy to get to from Myeonmok Station, so it's worth mentioning to anyone searching for tonkatsu near Myeonmok Station too.

According to the restaurant, Katsu Monster Myeonmok only uses domestic female pork, and all ingredients are meant to be used the same day they arrive. The refrigerated meat is aged over 200 hours and trimmed in-house, and everything is cooked to order, taking about 10 minutes. They say they always use clean oil and make their own soba broth from scratch.
It's easy to reach from Seoil University and also walkable from Myeonmok Station, so it's a handy reference for anyone looking for a meal near campus.
What the Katsu Monster Myeonmok storefront looks like
First, a look at the storefront.

What stood out was how easy it is to get a solid lunch nearby whenever you're craving tonkatsu at lunchtime.
The menu is posted outside too, so you can decide what to order before even walking in.
Bar seats and tablet ordering: is solo dining easy?
The inside of Katsu Monster Myeonmok is mostly bar-style seating. Each seat has an ordering tablet, so you can take your time browsing the menu before ordering. There are quite a few types of tonkatsu, so first-timers might want to check the menu board first.

Since the seating isn't set up facing other diners, eating alone here feels relatively low-pressure.
These days a lot of people are specifically looking for restaurants good for solo dining, so this seating layout could actually feel more comfortable for many. (Each seat had an ordering tablet.)
The menu, from loin katsu to tonkotsu ramen
Katsu Monster Myeonmok had more tonkatsu options than I expected.

There's the basic loin katsu made from pork loin and hire-katsu (fillet cutlet) made from tenderloin, plus cheese katsu, premium loin katsu, and mixed/combination katsu if you want to try several kinds at once. And it's not just tonkatsu.
From noodle dishes like cold soba and udon to tonkotsu ramen, spicy tonkotsu ramen, curry, and sides, the lineup works well even if you're dining with someone who wants something other than tonkatsu.

The interior centers around bar-style seating, so the vibe made eating alone feel relatively easy.

I liked that even having to eat lunch alone felt comfortable in this layout. (Personally, the quote on the wall was my favorite part ♥3♥)
What comes with the meal, and the sauces
The brown one is the tonkatsu sauce! There's also wasabi and vinegar, which would go nicely with the cold soba or udon too.

Tonkatsu is a dish where you enjoy both the crispy breading and the meat's texture together, and the feel changes depending on the cut you choose. If you like loin, go for loin katsu; if you prefer something leaner and softer, fillet katsu (hire-katsu) is the way to go — pick based on your taste.

Fillet katsu vs cheese katsu: how did the cross-section look?
Being able to order cheese katsu is one of Katsu Monster's distinctive features. (My friend loves tenderloin so she ordered the fillet katsu!!)

If you like the tonkatsu-and-cheese combo, it's worth considering cheese katsu when you order. (This is the cross-section of the cutlet.)

Adding cold soba or udon, plus the set menus
You can also pair tonkatsu with a noodle dish like cold soba or udon. On a hot day especially, crispy tonkatsu with cool cold soba sounds like a great combo.

If you're visiting with a friend, ordering a different type of katsu each and sharing seemed like a good approach too. Katsu Monster also has set menus like the 2–3 person sets, handy if you want to try several dishes at once. (If dining solo, picking one dish and eating a hearty portion works well too.)
