Onnuri gift certificates at Danyang Gugyeong Market fried chicken shop
In short
Danyang Heukmaneul Nurungji Dakgangjeong is a black garlic dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken) shop with a rice-crust topping inside Danyang Gugyeong Market in Danyang, Chungbuk. On a weekend morning the order went in straight away, but pickup took about 30 minutes, and a tasting counter let the writer try the double black garlic flavor before choosing it; Onnuri gift certificates work at most of the market. The garlic aroma is deep and the rice crust stays crisp, so Danyang Heukmaneul Nurungji Dakgangjeong is worth taking back to your room with a bottle of garlic makgeolli.

Where to find Danyang Heukmaneul Nurungji Dakgangjeong in Gugyeong Market
If you're on the most laid-back, air-is-so-clear kind of Danyang trip, Danyang Gugyeong Market is one of those places you have to stop by. There's so much food inside the market that you'll end up agonizing over what to eat. Among all of it, I stopped by Danyang Heukmaneul Nurungji Dakgangjeong (단양흑마늘누룽지닭강정), famous as the dakgangjeong spot in Danyang Gugyeong Market.
Hours are Mon, Wed–Sun 09:00–19:00, closed every Tuesday.

Separate order and pickup lines, and Onnuri gift certificates accepted
Walk into Danyang Gugyeong Market and you'll see a long waiting line — follow it and you'll find the dakgangjeong shop, haha! There are SO!! many people!! The order line and the pickup line are different, so make sure you check before you queue! Ordering itself happens right away~ but the pickup line is on the longer side ^^
Oh, and since Onnuri gift certificates are accepted at most of the market, if you bought appliances during a Samsung promotion, coming to shop at Danyang Gugyeong Market isn't a bad idea either ^^

Black garlic or original? Try both at the tasting counter
This place sells a special dakgangjeong you can only get in Danyang, so it was definitely on my must-try list for the trip. What stood out most was that, unlike regular dakgangjeong, it uses black garlic, a Danyang specialty. There's a tasting counter too, so you can sample before deciding on a flavor. Besides black garlic, there's also an original dakgangjeong flavor. Both come with rice crust (nurungji) topping as standard, so you only need to choose the flavor~~
They make the rice crust in-house, and this is the dakgangjeong shop that appeared on the show 1 Night 2 Days, so I was seriously curious~~!

What does the double black garlic dakgangjeong taste like?
The menu I ordered was the double black garlic flavor dakgangjeong. Since I was on a Danyang trip, I was curious and wanted to try the black garlic seasoning you can only get here!! Just from the name I figured the garlic flavor would come through strongly, and eating it, the garlic aroma was even more intense than I expected. The sweet-salty dakgangjeong sauce combined with the deep, rich flavor unique to black garlic made it clearly different from regular dakgangjeong.

The black garlic aroma was especially strong, and I thought this was dakgangjeong that really lets you experience Korea's love of garlic...!!👍🏻 Garlic lovers would be quite satisfied with this, and it'd also suit anyone looking for a treat different from the usual dakgangjeong. The rice crust was totally crispy too! I bet they could sell the rice crust on its own and it would do well~ In short, a treat among treats. No wonder it's so popular!!

How long is the weekend morning wait? About 30 minutes
Since this is known as such a popular dakgangjeong shop within Danyang Gugyeong Market, even visiting on a weekend morning didn't mean I could grab it right away. From ordering to pickup took about 30 minutes, but I got to walk around the market and check out other food during the wait, so it wasn't too boring.

Takeout from Danyang Gugyeong Market with garlic makgeolli
This is also a great menu to take back to your accommodation on a Danyang trip. They sell garlic makgeolli too, so picking that up along with the dakgangjeong seemed like a really good combination. If you're staying at a pension, enjoying a barbecue in the evening with dakgangjeong and garlic makgeolli on the side sounds like the perfect way to properly enjoy Danyang's local treat. If Jeju has peanut makgeolli, Danyang has garlic makgeolli!
If you're looking for something to eat at Danyang Gugyeong Market, or want a special menu you can only find in Danyang instead of ordinary dakgangjeong, give Danyang Heukmaneul Nurungji Dakgangjeong a try. If you especially like the rich flavor of black garlic, I'd recommend ordering the double black garlic flavor and enjoying it to the fullest.
