Tonkatsu restaurant near Seoil University in Seoul: Katsu Monster

My friend told me to come pick up a gift, so I hurried over to the neighborhood~~ and turns out she gave me merch of my favorite character as the gift!!!!!??? ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ I was so touched......I couldn't just go home after that, right....?

It happened to be lunchtime, and my friend hadn't eaten yet, so I decided to treat her to something good! I asked her for the best restaurant in the neighborhood and she answered without a moment's hesitation!! It was Katsu Monster Myeonmok.

Where is Katsu Monster Myeonmok?

Katsu Monster Myeonmok is a tonkatsu restaurant located at 25 Sangbong-ro, 1st floor, Jungnang-gu, Seoul. The exterior really shows its years of history!

Right in front of the entrance there's also a menu board, so it's easy to glance at while passing by! Since it's a tonkatsu specialist, they mainly sell tonkatsu, but they also have ramen, curry, udon, and cold soba!

There are menu photos on the banner and signboard too, and since we hadn't eaten lunch yet, we got so hungry we couldn't control our appetite anymore ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

What are the interior and seating like?

Inside Katsu Monster Myeonmok, it's mostly counter seating, and a lot of customers were eating solo! It really seemed like a takeout and delivery hotspot too — the delivery notification alerts kept coming nonstop ㄷㄷ

According to my friend, this place is famous as a go-to spot for Seoil University students! How good must it be for so many students to order from here...? Expectations Up!

We sat by the window! Since it was such an open spot, I liked being able to look outside while eating ㅎ_ㅎ

Katsu Monster Myeonmok menu and how to order

Katsu Monster Myeonmok has a kiosk installed at every table, which made ordering really convenient! They sell various types of tonkatsu like minced cutlet katsu, pork loin katsu, fillet katsu, and cheese katsu.

They also have set menus, so if you want to add other dishes together, I highly recommend those!

Besides tonkatsu, they also sell other meal items and sides like udon, ramen, bite-size curry, and karaage, so keep that in mind! Since we were on the verge of collapsing from hunger, we ordered the pork loin katsu set and the cheese katsu set!

There are sauces on the table to go with the tonkatsu too!

Beyond the classic Western-style tonkatsu sauce, wasabi, and salt, there's also oriental dressing sauce you can drizzle onto the salad that comes with the tonkatsu!

What comes with the cheese katsu and pork loin katsu sets?

Katsu Monster Myeonmok's sets come with the tonkatsu plus mini cold soba, rice, kimchi, and a hot soup. And here comes the long-awaited cheese katsu set!!!!!!!!!!!!! The visual is absolutely insane ㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷ

Next my friend's pork loin katsu set arrived too! Just looking at it, the meat is so thick it already looks amazing before we've even taken a bite ㄷㄷ

Along with the main tonkatsu, the mini cold soba side also comes as part of the set! Already feels so filling ♡

Kimchi, rice, and hot soup also make an appearance — essentials for any tonkatsu meal~!!! Honestly, as a Korean who lives on rice-power, white rice with every meal is basically a national rule, agreed?

How did the pork loin katsu taste?

The pork loin katsu at Katsu Monster Myeonmok was the textbook definition of crispy outside, juicy inside. First things first — sneaking a bite of my friend's pork loin katsu set!!!! ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Seriously, how could I not steal a bite of something that looks like that ㅋ

Looking at the cross-section, you could clearly see the juices, so it seemed like it would be super tender ㅠ_ㅠ♡

One bite of the pork loin katsu — ah aaaah~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Textbook crispy-outside, juicy-inside. Since it's fresh out of the fryer, the breading is incredibly crispy and the meat inside literally melts, no exaggeration ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ♡ Now I understood why it's known as a Seoil University favorite...ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Why order the cheese katsu?

The dish I most want to recommend at Katsu Monster Myeonmok is the cheese katsu. Time to try the cheese katsu set I ordered too~~~~~????

What caught my eye the most was the cheese glistening with a beautiful sheen! It looked absolutely mouthwatering..☆

Like this, the cheese stretches soooooo~~~~~~ far ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ Insane!!!!!!!!!!!

One bite of the cheese katsu — ah aaaah~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ the nuttiness and salty savoriness of the mozzarella cheese. The crispiness of the breading. And the clean flavor of the meat all come together for what can only be called heavenly taste....!!!!!!!!!! I most highly recommend the cheese katsu!!!!

How is the mini cold soba served?

The mini cold soba that comes with the Katsu Monster Myeonmok set was perfect for refreshing your palate between bites of hot tonkatsu. When you want a little refresh, you toss the cold soba together with the toppings

and slurp down some broth and noodles in one bite, and you're ready for round two. Maybe because we'd been eating hot tonkatsu, the coolness of the cold soba paired so well ♡

Is Katsu Monster Myeonmok worth a visit?

ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ It was so good we ended up scraping the plate clean...ㅋ The portions are big too, so one meal really fills you up ㅠㅠㅠㅠ♡ But beyond the portion size, the taste is genuinely something you won't regret...... I definitely, definitely, definitely want to come back ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
