Magok Korean BBQ with room seats and a parking stamp: Ihwajeong

In short

Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch is a charcoal-grilled pork rib restaurant in Gangseo, Seoul, within walking distance of Balsan Station, with a wide open hall and room-style seating. On a repeat visit the order was two servings of pork ribs and doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), and staff grilled the marinated ribs at the table so the group could keep talking through the meal. Between the rooms and the store parking lot, where the ticket is stamped in-store after eating, Ihwajeong is worth keeping on the list for a Magok or Balsan group dinner.

This is a repeat-visit review of Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga, a Magok group dinner favorite and one of the few Magok restaurants with room seating. Shot in September 2026, this is my own on-site experience.

When you're looking for a place to eat with several people around Magok or Balsan, the size of the restaurant and how the seating is arranged matter just as much as the food. Especially for a work dinner, there's a lot to weigh: is there space where your group can talk comfortably, do you have to grill the meat yourselves, and can you even park nearby?

Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch, which I visited this time, has both a spacious hall and room-style spaces, which seemed like a great fit for anyone looking for a Magok group dinner spot. Staff grill the meat for you, so even a large group can eat pretty comfortably. Let's take a look.

Why Ihwajeong works as a Magok group dinner spot

Exterior of Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga, within walking distance of Balsan Station

Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga is within walking distance of Balsan Station. It's convenient by public transit, and since there's store parking too, it also works for group gatherings where people arrive by different means.

If you drive, just get a parking stamp on your parking ticket at the store after your meal. Above all, the restaurant itself is quite spacious, so it didn't feel cramped even with a lot of customers.

Rooms and seating at Ihwajeong for group meals

Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga's spacious hall seating

Personally, what caught my eye this time was the seating arrangement at Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch.

Room-style seating space for group gatherings

Besides the usual open tables, there's also a separate room-style space that's great for eating with your own group. For a big gathering like a company dinner, being able to talk without mixing in with other customers around you is a pretty big plus.

Interior of the hall with generous spacing between tables

There was also decent space between tables, making it easy to move around, and the overall atmosphere felt tidy — it suited family gatherings and various group meals well.

Tidy group dining tables

Because of these spatial perks, this place is worth considering if you're looking for a Magok group dinner spot.

What's on the menu at Ihwajeong

There's a wide variety of menu items here, and if it's your first visit, I'd recommend ordering the pork ribs like I did.

Two servings of pork ribs and the side dishes

Table set with two servings of pork ribs

I ordered two servings of pork ribs again this time. Just like last time, they came with delicious-looking side dishes — they looked appetizing just to see.

The quality of the side dishes here is quite high, honestly comparable to a proper Korean restaurant specializing in banchan (side dishes).

Pork ribs prepared with charcoal

After a short wait, the meat came out along with the charcoal.

Marinated pork ribs placed over the charcoal

Marinated ribs can burn easily while grilling, so you normally have to keep an eye on them, but here staff grilled them for us, which made things easy.

They kept flipping the meat until it reached just the right point, which was great — we could focus on chatting with our group and actually enjoying the meal.

Well-cooked pork ribs

Once the pork ribs were nicely cooked, the meat was tender, and the marinade wasn't overly sweet or sharp either.

Charcoal-scented pork ribs with rice

On top of that, the charcoal aroma came through naturally, and it paired well with rice too.

Finishing the meal with doenjang stew

Doenjang stew ordered after the meat course

After eating a fair amount of pork ribs, I ordered doenjang stew (soybean paste stew). After the sweetish marinated ribs, having a warm, savory broth come in was a pretty great combination. If you want to finish your meal heartily with rice, doenjang stew is a good choice alongside naengmyeon (cold noodles).

Especially at a group dinner, people often order a rice dish along with the meat rather than just the meat itself, so this was an easy, fitting menu to add on.

Planning a group dinner in Magok or Balsan?

Pear sherbet served as a palate cleanser at the end

To finish, I enjoyed pear sherbet. It tasted as good as it looked — there's nothing quite like it for cleansing your palate afterward.

Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga has a spacious restaurant, room-style seating, available parking, and a system where staff grill the meat for you — all of which cut out a lot of the hassle of a group dinner. If you're looking for a Magok group dinner spot with rooms around Balsan Station and the Magok area, it's worth keeping in mind.
