Balsan Station pork rib restaurant with 6 side dishes: Ihwajeong

In short

Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch is a pork rib restaurant on Gangseo-ro 54-gil near Balsan Station in Gangseo, Seoul. Two people came for dinner and ordered two servings of marinated pork ribs, doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) and bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold buckwheat noodles), which arrived with six side dishes: salad, pickled onion, baek kimchi (white kimchi), shredded scallion, geotjeori (fresh kimchi) and potato salad. Staff grilled and cut the meat at the table, so Ihwajeong is an easy place to sit and talk without watching the grill.

I went looking for dinner near Balsan Station and ended up at Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch. I'd been searching for somewhere to eat meat around Balsan, and this place turned out to have a spacious dining room and parking available, which made it feel right for a family meal or a get-together. It's not far from Balsan Station either, so it's easy to reach — worth considering if you're hunting for a good pork rib restaurant near Balsan Station.

Ordering two servings of pork ribs, doenjang stew, and bibim naengmyeon

What we ordered that day was two servings of pork ribs, doenjang stew, and bibim naengmyeon. There were plenty of other menu items, but the pork ribs were what I wanted to try first. What was especially nice was not having to grill the meat myself the whole time.

Since the staff grilled the meat for us, we could eat at a relaxed pace while chatting. If you find grilling your own meat a hassle, this place fits the bill nicely as a Magok pork rib restaurant that grills for you.

Six basic side dishes

The basic side dishes were salad, pickled onion, baek kimchi (white kimchi), shredded scallion, geotjeori kimchi (fresh unfermented kimchi), and potato salad. The salad was light and worked well to whet the appetite before the meat, and the pickled onion had a tangy edge that paired nicely with the sweet marinade on the pork ribs.

The shredded scallion also went well with the meat, and the geotjeori kimchi's crunchy texture and spicy kick made it a nice thing to reach for in between bites.

Staff-grilled marinated pork ribs — how were they?

Once the pork ribs went on the grill and started cooking, a sweet marinade aroma rose up. Marinated ribs can burn quickly if you don't manage the heat carefully, so it needs constant attention — but the staff kept flipping them and cutting them into bite-sized pieces, which made everything so much easier. That's exactly the kind of thing that makes this a good spot to bring family or parents. If you'd rather eat comfortably than be busy grilling, the phrase "Magok pork rib restaurant that grills for you" really fits here.

Browned, well-cooked pork ribs cut into pieces

Well-cooked, the pork ribs had a slightly browned exterior with that signature sweet marinade flavor still coming through. It wasn't overly sweet — there was a good balance of saltiness too, so the meat was enjoyable on its own. The inside wasn't tough, and since it was cut into bite-sized pieces it was easy to eat. It was good wrapped in lettuce, and with the side dishes alongside, I kept reaching for more.

One thing I personally care about when looking for a good pork rib restaurant near Balsan Station is whether the meal menu holds its own alongside the meat, and the bibim naengmyeon and doenjang stew we ordered that day both worked well with the pork ribs. Two servings of pork ribs alone might have felt a bit light, but with the meal items added, the portion was just right and left us satisfyingly full.

When was doenjang stew good to eat?

After eating a fair amount of meat, we moved on to the doenjang stew. After marinated pork ribs, you start craving warm broth, and the doenjang stew hit the spot at exactly that moment.

It had a savory, salty flavor that was great for resetting the palate, and it would pair even better with a bowl of rice. Alternating between the meat and the stew kept the sweet ribs from ever feeling too much.

Pork ribs and bibim naengmyeon combination

Bibim naengmyeon is one of the dishes I always order alongside pork ribs. The pairing of cold, spicy-tangy noodles with sweet pork ribs worked really well. Eating the noodles and the meat separately was fine, but putting a piece of pork rib right on top of the noodles and eating them together was much tastier.

Especially near the end, eating the last of the meat together with the bibim naengmyeon cut through the richness and revived the appetite. If you like the pork rib and naengmyeon combo, I'd recommend ordering this exact lineup. If you're after a Magok pork rib restaurant that grills for you and also want naengmyeon on the side, this should suit you well.

Store size and gatherings with family or coworkers

The interior was quite spacious. The tables weren't packed too closely together, and it looked comfortable even for a larger group. It seemed like a good fit for family meals as well as company dinners or gatherings. Among pork rib restaurants near Balsan Station, this could be a real plus for anyone looking for a spacious spot that's easy to gather in.

At a Korean BBQ place, grilling the meat yourself often means one person in the group ends up too busy managing the grill to really eat — that wasn't much of an issue here. With staff handling the grilling, everyone could eat comfortably. That's why families with parents or young kids in tow would probably appreciate this kind of service even more when looking for a Magok pork rib restaurant that grills for you.

Was the portion enough for two?

The centerpiece of the meal that day was, of course, the pork ribs. Two servings were a comfortable amount for two people, and adding the bibim naengmyeon and doenjang stew left us quite full. The marinade wasn't overly strong, and not having to constantly monitor how the meat was cooking made the whole meal easier.

There are plenty of Korean BBQ spots around Balsan and Magok, so it can be hard to decide where to go — but if having the meat grilled for you matters to you, Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga seems like a solid choice. It's especially well suited to anyone looking for a good pork rib restaurant near Balsan Station who wants to eat pork ribs without the hassle.

On top of being a Magok pork rib restaurant that grills for you, factoring in the parking and roomy seating makes it a good option for family meals or group dinners. Since you don't have to keep tending the grill, it's easier to focus on conversation, and the meal moves at a relaxed pace.

Personally, the pork rib and bibim naengmyeon combo was my favorite part. Eating the sweetly grilled meat alongside the spicy-tangy noodles never got old, right to the end. With the doenjang stew in the mix too, we could alternate between warm broth and cold noodles, which made the whole lineup satisfying.

This time we ordered two servings of pork ribs, doenjang stew, and bibim naengmyeon, and the combination worked well overall. Next time I visit, I'd like to order the pork ribs again as a base and try some of the other rib dishes too. If you're after both a good pork rib restaurant near Balsan Station and a Magok pork rib restaurant that grills for you, this is a place worth checking out.
