I went to Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo on a friend's recommendation — a new spot in Baegot. My one-line review: clean, delicious, and exactly the style parents would love! I was pretty happy with it too haha.

My friends and I were trying to figure out where to have dinner, and this was exactly the kind of place I was looking for — tidy, clean, and filling enough to leave you satisfied. I think this will become a regular spot for our family meals out.

Spacious, clean seating inside the restaurant

The atmosphere and drink area

The inside is spacious and clean. Nice interior! I've been realizing lately how much a restaurant's interior matters, and this place is spotless through and through.

Coffee and drink area

There's a space here for coffee and drinks! But there was so much food to eat that I completely forgot about it. I'll try it next time.

Why I chose the boyang set for two

I was debating what to order, then saw the boyang (nourishing) set for two and ordered it without hesitation! I love mackerel the most, and my friend wanted the braised dish, so this set — which includes both — turned out to be a great full option. If my friend had wanted jeyuk-bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork) instead, there are à la carte options too, so that would've worked as well.

Grilled fish is tricky to make at home because of the smell, so I tend to eat it out — and it's great to have a place this good near my house haha. Here's the menu!

They have a hot pot rice set, which is great — hot pot rice really goes with grilled fish. There's also ganjang gejang (soy-marinated crab), so if you like Korean food, this is a solid Baegot pick — good stuff, Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo.

Menu page with cuttlefish salad and pizza

They also have cuttlefish salad with vinegar sauce and gorgonzola pizza, so it seems like a good place to bring kids too. And you can add on à la carte items!

There's flounder and sea eel too! All the side dishes are tasty, and it's set up buffet-style with a self-serve bar, so it seems great for having a drink too. (One menu item required per person.)

So clean.

What's in the banchan self-serve bar

First up, doenjang soup (soybean paste soup).

Japchae and tteokbokki.

The rice cakes were chewy and delicious, but I was so full I couldn't eat much of it, sadly.

Of course these come as basic side dishes, and you can also get more from the self-serve bar!

How do the flounder, sea eel, and mackerel taste?

The boyang set for two comes with flounder, sea eel, and mackerel. The mackerel was, of course, delicious, and the sea eel — which I think I was eating for the first time — actually suited my taste better than freshwater eel. The flounder was tender too.

Hot pot rice, down to the crispy crust

I love hot pot rice~~~ I scooped some out into a bowl, added water, and made nurungji (scorched rice) with the crust! It's so nice when a Korean meal includes hot pot rice. The rice was sticky and delicious too, so I cleaned my bowl completely.

The braised dish, no fishy smell at all

And last but not least, the bubbling braised dish!! It had big chunks of radish in it and was really good — tastes like mom's cooking. I'm especially sensitive to fishy smells in braised dishes, but Hwadogeuro Gan Godeungeo's was clean, with no fishiness at all.

Rice and side dishes. The fish was seasoned mildly, so I dipped it in soy sauce, which was great in its own way. There's so much food that if you want a hearty Korean meal, I'd highly recommend this place.

The origin labeling board! Turns out the mackerel is from Norway. And they also sell domestic dried yellow corvina (boribuljong-eo)!
