Picking a menu when eating out with kids is always a bit of a puzzle. Today we went to Jokbo, a restaurant in Seo-gu, Daejeon, where the whole family could eat well together. We ordered jokbal (braised pig's trotters) and jaengban guksu (tangy noodles on a tray), both favorites of the kids, and it tasted even better than expected — a really satisfying meal. The jokbal in particular had an impressively moist, tender texture, and eating it with fresh vegetables kept it from feeling heavy, so my hand kept reaching for more. The kids took a bite and gave a thumbs up, so this one's staying in memory as a great spot for family dinners.

Why we visited Jokbo in Seo-gu, Daejeon

We were deciding on dinner with the kids and settled on jokbal that day. It's a dish that's fairly easy for both adults and kids to eat, so it works well for a family meal out. This time we visited Jokbo, a place I'd love to recommend to anyone looking for good eats in Wolpyeong.

Instead of ordering a bunch of different dishes, our family decided to share jokbal and jaengban guksu. Once the food was set on the table, the colors alone looked appetizing. There were vegetables served alongside the jokbal, so we could enjoy it in different ways to suit our taste.

Moist, tender jokbal

The dish I was most looking forward to was, of course, the jokbal. Taking a piece, I loved how moist the lean meat felt, not dry at all. Jokbal can sometimes turn out tough or overly greasy, but the tenderness of what we had this time won me over. Eating it warm especially brought out a subtle richness of flavor, and I kept reaching for one piece after another.

The kids said they'd just try a little, as usual, but ended up eating more than I expected once they tasted it.

Mom, this is delicious!

they said, giving a thumbs up, and I felt unreasonably proud. So if you're looking for a Wolpyeong-dong restaurant where the family can eat comfortably together, this one's worth checking out.

Eating it with fresh vegetables

One way to enjoy this dish is pairing it with vegetables. Eating crunchy vegetables alongside the soft jokbal gave it a great contrast in texture that made it even tastier. Eating meat alone can start to feel heavy, but the fresh vegetables kept things feeling clean in the mouth. I like piling several ingredients together like a wrap, while the kids ate the vegetables and meat separately, each enjoying it their own way.

Being able to eat according to your own taste like this seems like one of the perks of a family meal out. If you're looking for a place the whole family can visit together, somewhere like Jokbo, where you can enjoy jokbal with side dishes, is a good option.

Jaengban guksu is a dish you can't skip alongside jokbal. It felt like something would be missing if we only ordered jokbal, so we tried it too — and to cut to the chase, it was really delicious. The tangy, appetite-sparking sauce mixed with a variety of vegetables kept a crunchy texture alive.

Mixing the noodles evenly with the sauce and vegetables, then eating them with a piece of jokbal, made for a really great combination. The soft, clean flavor of the jokbal paired with the tangy-sweet taste of the jaengban guksu, each filling in what the other lacked. The kids love noodles, so they ate the jaengban guksu well too. In the end, we cleaned our plates completely. If you want to enjoy jokbal and noodles together, this is a good spot to remember for jokbal in Wolpyeong.

Why it was a good place to eat with kids

When eating out with kids, the flavor matters, but so does whether everyone at the table can enjoy the meal comfortably. This time the kids' reaction made the meal even more satisfying. Above all, the jokbal was moist and tender, so it wasn't a struggle for the kids to eat, and the jaengban guksu had a good balance of sauce and vegetables that whetted the appetite. I ate the jokbal with vegetables, while the kids picked mostly from their favorite dishes. Thanks to that, I didn't have to worry much about the food during the meal.
