Jongno Korean restaurant for wedding invitation gatherings: Modam Dining

In short

Modam Dining Gwanghwamun is a Korean restaurant in Jongno, Seoul, serving generous set meals for gatherings. We shared Jindo green onion bulgogi, abalone tteokgalbi, and abalone soy-marinated shrimp sets, from appetizers through rice, soup, and plum tea. Verdict: a polished, filling choice when you are hosting.

I have been seeing friends so often lately that I have wedding invitation gatherings about three times a week. Today, I visited Modam Dining Gwanghwamun, well known as a Gwanghwamun spot for Korean set-meal gatherings, for one of those invitation gatherings.

How was it for a Gwanghwamun wedding invitation gathering?

The elegant exterior and interior are truly perfect for a Gwanghwamun gathering. I was the one hosting, and I was very happy with the upscale atmosphere. There were others visiting for gatherings like ours, but since the main menu is Korean set meals, there were also many families.

What we ordered from the Modam set table

We decided on the Modam set table and each ordered the dish we wanted.

  • Jindo green onion and crispy bulgogi set
  • Abalone tteokgalbi set
  • Abalone soy-marinated shrimp and butter rice set

First came three appetizers: Cheongyang pepper water kimchi, a salad with yuzu dressing, and mustard vegetables with pine-nut sauce. Everything tasted clean and fresh.

The seasonal porridge was mung bean porridge, with a lovely nutty flavor. It was ground a little coarsely, so it had some texture too, which I liked.

Perilla oil capellini. Since it was cold pasta, I mixed it well and had it with sweet shrimp—it was so nutty and delicious.

We also had the flounder sashimi ceviche. It is not technically a course, but even when you order a set meal, the dishes come out like a course, so it was really nice to chat and eat them one by one. They adjusted the pacing of the food, so we could enjoy each dish warm, which was great.

Today’s dish was shiitake mushroom tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour fried mushrooms). It was nutty and crisp, with a lightly sweet sauce—delicious. Even though it was tossed in sauce, it was not soggy at all and stayed crispy. So good!

A table filled from mains through rice

Once all the final main dishes arrived, the table was completely full.

Abalone and tteokgalbi, Jindo green onions and crispy bulgogi, and abalone soy-marinated shrimp. We had already been served salads and side dishes, but look at how generous the main portions were too!

Since the rice was about to come out, four more banchan (Korean side dishes) arrived as well.

And then black rice and beef radish soup.

The tteokgalbi was moist inside and tender to eat. The crispy bulgogi was thoroughly infused with seasoning, so it paired beautifully with rice. The soy-marinated shrimp was not too salty either, making it just right with rice. Honestly, there was so much food, but we ate almost all of it haha.

My thoughts after visiting for a wedding invitation gathering

What is really great about Modam Dining Gwanghwamun is that, beyond the mains, it has a complete Korean meal lineup with appetizers, side dishes, and sweet plum tea at the end—so I truly recommend it as a Gwanghwamun gathering spot! When you look for a Korean set-meal restaurant, it is often either an overly expensive course or the menu feels skimpy, right? But with Modam Dining Gwanghwamun, there is no need to worry about that.

As the host, you want everyone to eat deliciously and leave full, and this is exactly what a great Korean set-meal restaurant should be: tasty and generous. I visited for a wedding invitation gathering, but it would also be lovely for a family gathering or a company dinner. You can reserve a private room for four or more people, so I highly recommend it as a Gwanghwamun Korean set-meal gathering spot! 🤍
