Why we stopped at Madam Hao for lunch near Ajou University Hospital
Madam Hao is a Vietnamese restaurant on Wolgongro 193beon-gil near Ajou University and Ajou University Hospital in Suwon. We were on our way on a trip when lunchtime hit, and after wondering where to eat, we stopped by Madam Hao near Ajou University Hospital.
Ajou University Hospital holds a slightly special memory for my husband and me. It's the place where he once had emergency surgery for a sudden heart attack. Now we get to stop by together for lunch on the way to a trip — thinking back on that time makes me a little dizzy, but also grateful.
This time we picked Madam Hao, a place to try Vietnamese food. I've never actually been to Vietnam, but I do love Vietnamese food. Sometimes I find myself really craving hot pho or tangy-sweet pad thai.

What is Madam Hao like inside?
Arriving out front, the sign reading 'Madam HAO HANOI STREET FOOD' already gave off an exotic vibe. The wood-toned entrance mixed with green plants made it feel a bit like a restaurant you'd stumble on while traveling.
Stepping inside, warm-toned lighting and wood tables created a cozy atmosphere.
There were window seats too, and the tables were spaced comfortably apart, making it a good lunch spot for anyone looking for a place to eat near Ajou University.
When we walked in, most of the customers looked like Vietnamese people or other foreigners, and toward the back the place was full of a group wearing name tags that seemed to be from Ajou University or Ajou University Hospital. It seemed like a good spot for group meals, and also for a casual drink with Vietnamese food in the evening — worth remembering if you're looking for a bar near Ajou University too.
On the tables, Madam Hao's recommended menu and how to eat it were explained, along with various Vietnamese sauces set out.

Beef brisket pho, 11,000 won: how is the broth?
That day we ordered beef brisket pho for ₩11,000, pad thai for ₩12,500, and a cola, for a total of ₩25,500.
First up was the beef brisket pho, served in a big bowl. With mornings and evenings starting to turn a bit cooler lately, I was especially craving something hot and brothy that day.
There was a generous amount of thickly sliced beef brisket piled on, along with plenty of chopped green onion, so it looked delicious right off the bat. Taking a sip of the broth first, the warmth filled my stomach so comfortably! Pho really is perfect for a day like this.

Pad thai, 12,500 won, eaten on the shrimp chips
The pad thai we ordered alongside it also came out generously portioned.
The chewy noodles came with bean sprouts, chives, crushed peanuts, and lemon, so you could mix it all in to your taste.
Switching between the pho's warm broth and the pad thai's savory flavor turned out to be a pretty great combination. And the crispy shrimp chips that came alongside kept pulling my hand back for more, one after another.
With yellow pickled radish added in too, it was a satisfying meal. We happened to stop by Madam Hao right when our schedule lined up with lunchtime, before starting the trip.
Having pho and pad thai together for lunch near Ajou University was filling, and being back near Ajou University Hospital after a while brought back some old memories for a moment.
