Seogwipo seafood restaurant: cutlassfish set at Cheonghaewon
In short
Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is a seafood restaurant on Sinyang-ro in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju. On my Jeju trip, I ordered the A set with braised cutlassfish, abalone seafood stew, fried tilefish, and pot-cooked rice; the braise was flavorful without being aggressively spicy, and the spacious, windowed dining room felt comfortable.

During my Jeju trip, I stopped by Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch (제주로운청해원 성산일출봉점) for a hearty meal near Seongsan Ilchulbong. I had braised cutlassfish with pot-cooked rice and abalone seafood stew.

Where is it near Seongsan Ilchulbong, and is parking available?
The restaurant is on the first floor at 101 Sinyang-ro, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo. It is close to Seongsan Ilchulbong, so I found it convenient for a meal before or after sightseeing. The original post lists its hours as daily from 8:00 AM to 9:30 PM.

The post said that about two cars can park in the alley behind the restaurant.
What is the dining room like for families or groups?
Inside, the dining room was spacious and the tables were generously spaced. I thought it would work well for a family trip or group meal. The large windows kept it from feeling closed in, and the clean interior made the meal comfortable.

What did I order, and how much did it cost?
The menu included braised cutlassfish, grilled cutlassfish, braised mackerel, and abalone stew. There were also set menus for trying several dishes together.

My order record for the day was the A set for two at ₩48,000 and Zero Cider at ₩2,000. However, the original order list calls it “A Set (grilled cutlassfish),” while the meal description refers to braised cutlassfish, so the exact set name and contents need confirmation.

The table was set with braised cutlassfish, fried tilefish portioned for the number of diners, and abalone seafood stew. For the set’s soup, I could choose between seaweed soup and abalone seafood stew, and I chose the abalone seafood stew.

I first served out the pot-cooked rice and prepared nurungji (scorched rice) to eat at the end of the meal.

How spicy was the braised cutlassfish, and did it go well with pot rice?
The braised cutlassfish came with plenty of large pieces of fish. The seasoning was spicy and savory, but it was not aggressively hot for my taste. The seasoning had soaked into the fish, making it good with the freshly cooked pot rice.

The cutlassfish was tender and moist, with a clean taste and no fishiness. The radish cooked with it had also absorbed the seasoning and was soft. I ate the fish and radish with rice.
What were the abalone seafood stew and fried tilefish like?
The abalone seafood stew had plenty of abalone and seafood. Its broth tasted clean and savory, and it was nice to eat spoonful by spoonful while hot. The fried tilefish served alongside it was nutty and savory too.

At the end, I had warm nurungji and refreshed my palate with Zero Cider. With several dishes to eat together, the meal was filling, and the service was friendly, so I finished satisfied.
Near the entrance, the restaurant also sold Jeju specialties such as Jeju jjonddeugi (chewy snack) and hallabong jelly.
