Spicy braised pork bones for two in Jorye-dong, Suncheon: Namdareun

This weekend we headed out for a fall trip to Suncheon! 🍁 So today I'm introducing a gamjatang (pork bone stew) spot that's a hot place in Jorye-dong, Suncheon — Namdareun Gamjatang Suncheon Jorye branch 🍚🤍

Where is Namdareun Gamjatang Suncheon Jorye branch, and when does it open?

Namdareun Gamjatang Suncheon Jorye branch is a gamjatang and pork bone hangover soup restaurant on the 1st floor of 123 Baegyeon-gil, Jorye-dong, Suncheon, South Jeolla Province. It's open daily 10:00–23:00.

Wow... they must be pretty popular, because there were tons of signatures from various celebrities plastered on the wall!

Inside the restaurant: solo lunches to group dinners

The interior of Namdareun Gamjatang Suncheon Jorye branch was bigger than I expected, with tables spaced out comfortably — a real find in Jorye-dong! The clean, tidy atmosphere made it look great for anything from solo meals to family outings or hanging out with friends, and with group tables and private rooms, it seemed perfect for office workers' lunch gatherings too, haha. We saw quite a few people dining solo on the weekend too!

The self-bar has hand-torn dough noodles

The self-bar had all kinds of side dishes for refills, plus hand-torn dough soup noodles you could add. *Note that the noodles aren't included by default — they're only available at the self-bar!

The menu and what we ordered

True to a gamjatang restaurant, Namdareun Gamjatang Suncheon Jorye branch's menu had a variety of pork bone dishes and hangover soups. The signature menu items include namja-tang (haha), Namdareun bone hot pot, and beef brisket kimchi bone hot pot. If you're dining alone and want something filling, go for the pork bone hangover soup; if you're with a group, gamjatang or bone hot pot works well!

A free steamed egg to tame the spice

Solid basic side dishes! A steamed egg came free, which was great for calming our stomachs beforehand. Our yeoshin-bbyeojjim turned out to be a bit spicy, so haha... if you're getting the yeoshin-bbyeojjim, eat the steamed egg first like we did!

How does the yeosin-bbyeojjim (small) taste?

🍖 Yeoshin-bbyeojjim (small) 🌶️ It came fully cooked, so we were told we could eat it right away! Piled high with bean sprouts and loaded generously with cheese rice cake and noodle sticks, it looked so delicious. Plus that spicy, tangy smell as a bonus, haha

I went straight for my love (haha), the cheese rice cake first — the seasoning was exactly spicy-sweet, totally my style. A bone stew that comes with cheese rice cake as standard? How could you not love it!

The pork bones were just as delicious — a total win. Eating them with a bit of the sauce brought out more savory flavor than the meat alone, and it went especially well with rice b Once the sauce soaked into the rice a bit, even the rice alone was tasty, so naturally we kept alternating a spoonful of rice with a bite of bone stew, haha

The meat came off the bone so easily, and it was loaded with various noodle add-ins (even though we didn't add extra!) — Namdareun's bone stew was just so fun to eat. My boyfriend kept raving about how good it was as he ate, haha

Final verdict on lunch at Namdareun Gamjatang

Finally, we added the hand-torn dough soup noodles from the self-bar. The yeoshin-bbyeojjim we had that day, with its spicy-sweet sauce and the fun of picking meat off the bone, felt different from typical gamjatang! Eating it with rice made for quite a filling lunch >< haha. The staff were friendly too, so I'll definitely stop by again whenever I'm in Suncheon.
