Chuncheon katsu dinner with kids: gyudon and king cutlet, Jeongseong
In short
Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch is a pork cutlet (katsu) restaurant in Hyoja-dong, Chuncheon, near Gangwon National University. On a family dinner with a child, the order was the Western-style king pork cutlet set, the spicy pork cutlet set and gyudon (beef rice bowl): the king cutlet came with the sauce on the side and was crisp outside and juicy inside, while the spicy cutlet topped with cheongyang chili had a savory depth. Wide U-shaped sofa seats and a kids' tray make Jeongseong Katsu an easy place to eat with children.

If you're looking for a good pork cutlet spot in Chuncheon, this place is worth keeping in mind. From crispy cutlet to spicy cutlet to sweet gyudon (beef rice bowl), every single dish satisfied. I visited Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch, a well-known cutlet restaurant in Chuncheon's Hyoja-dong and near Gangwon National University.

Where do you park at Jeongseong Katsu in Hyoja-dong?
For parking, I used the Dohwagol public parking lot near Gangwon National University. It was open for free at the time, and it's only about a 5-minute walk to Jeongseong Katsu, so it wasn't a hassle at all. Worth noting if you're driving there.

The exterior looked clean even before going in, which built up my expectations. Stepping inside, the interior was just as tidy and pleasant overall.

Wide U-shaped sofa seats that suit families with kids
What especially caught my eye was the wide U-shaped sofa seating! It's got a structure a bit like a study space, comfortable to sit in, so it looked good for groups of Gangwon National University students eating together too. And when you're visiting with a kid like we were, having roomy sofa seats like this is really convenient. Even though it's popular with students, the atmosphere was totally fine for a family visit too.

Ordering the king pork cutlet, spicy cutlet and gyudon
You order via tablet at your table. After a lot of deliberating, we ordered three things: the Western-style king pork cutlet set, the spicy pork cutlet set, and gyudon.

One thing I personally liked: all the dishes came out at almost the same time. It's so much better eating as a family when everything's served together, instead of one person eating while someone else waits. And the table was huge, so we had plenty of room :)

Western-style king pork cutlet: crisp outside, juicy inside
The king pork cutlet was meant for my kid, who's not a big fan of cutlet sauce, so I asked for the sauce on the side. With no sauce poured over it, the king cutlet looks a little bare in photos, haha. But eating it this way actually let us really taste the cutlet itself.

Cutting it with a knife made a genuinely crispy sound. The kind of crunch you hear biting into freshly fried fried chicken — that sharp, crisp sound, exactly.

Personally, I think trying cutlet without sauce first tells you more accurately about the frying and the meat quality. Taking a bite, I understood why people come here looking for the go-to cutlet spot near Gangwon National University. Crispy outside, and the meat inside wasn't dry at all but juicy — truly crispy outside, tender inside. The batter wasn't too thick or greasy either, so I kept reaching for more.

Eaten plain, you get the clean, savory flavor of the cutlet itself; dipped in the sauce served on the side, you get that sweet, rich flavor unique to Western-style cutlet — a totally different experience. My kid, who doesn't like sauce, ate it plain, while I dipped mine generously. Being able to enjoy it however you like was great. And best of all, my kid ate really well, which as a mom bumped my satisfaction way up :)

Spicy pork cutlet with cheongyang chili: how hot is it?
This time it's the spicy pork cutlet my husband picked. We actually love spicy cutlet and order it often elsewhere, but it's failed us plenty of times — ordered as 'spicy pork cutlet' and turned out barely spicy, or the sauce was just salty rather than spicy. So we ordered this one a bit cautiously too, but the result was a total success!

First off, with cheongyang chili sprinkled on top, it looks properly spicy from the visual alone, right? And the sauce wasn't just hot — it had an addictive quality with a savory depth layered into the spice that really drew you in.

Chewing on the cheongyang chili along with it added a crisp texture and a sharp spicy kick that cut right through the richness. One bite of cutlet, one bite of rice! It went really well eaten with rice.
The warm udon broth that came with the set also paired well with the cutlet. After a bite of crispy, rich cutlet, a spoonful of warm broth felt like it reset my palate, so I kept going back for more in between.

Is the gyudon good at a katsu restaurant? Yes
Now, the gyudon! My kid wanted both cutlet and beef rice bowl, so we ordered it too. Bottom line: ordering the gyudon was such a good call.

The moment it arrived, it looked appetizing right away. Plenty of meat piled on top of the rice — you could tell at a glance the portion was generous. And the second it landed on the table, a sweet, savory meaty aroma wafted up, making my mouth water before I even took a bite.
The meat was tender, sweet, and savory, and the seasoning went really well with the rice. Not overly salty or sweet — just the right level when eaten with rice. My kid was eating the cutlet well too, but I noticed later they were going after the meat even more :)

Kids' meal trays at Jeongseong Katsu
They happened to have a kids' tray ready, so I asked for one and portioned out some cutlet and gyudon on it. It disappeared in no time! Having kids' dishware ready when you're visiting with a child is a small thing, but it really made a good impression.
I couldn't pass on the gyudon either — mixed the rice and meat together and took a big bite. The moist rice soaked up the sweet, savory meat seasoning, and my spoon just kept going.

Meat really is love, haha. We came looking for a go-to cutlet spot near Gangwon National University, but the gyudon earned its own stamp of approval too!

Is Jeongseong Katsu worth it near Gangwon National University?
From the Western-style king cutlet to the spicy cutlet to the gyudon, not a single dish disappointed — a genuinely enjoyable dinner. The cutlet especially had that freshly-fried crispy texture, tasting great whether plain or with sauce, so both kids and adults could enjoy it their own way. If you like spicy food, I'd also recommend the spicy cutlet topped with cheongyang chili. And if just cutlet feels like not enough, ordering the sweet, savory gyudon alongside is a great idea too.

Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch is easy for Gangwon National University students to eat at comfortably, and with its wide sofa seating, it also worked well for us visiting with a kid. If you're looking for a good cutlet restaurant around Chuncheon's Hyoja-dong or near Gangwon National University, it's worth stopping by. Next time we're in Chuncheon, we plan to come back and try the other menu items we missed this time :)
