These days the evenings have gotten pleasantly cool, perfect for walks and for going out to eat something delicious. Weather like this makes me crave hot soup, no matter what. So it's been a while since I went out for a hot, filling meal. Today I'm introducing a hangover soup spot in Suncheon: Namdareun Gamjatang Suncheon Jorye branch.

1. Table-side ordering makes it easy

As someone slow to order, I liked being able to take my time browsing the menu and ordering at my own pace.

2. Self-serve side dish bar plus free broth and noodle refills

You can easily grab extra side dishes from the self-serve bar, and the broth and instant noodles are unlimited too — I really liked that.

3. Roomy tables

The spacing between tables felt generous, so it seemed like a good spot both for family dinners and group gatherings.

4. Clean dining room and friendly service

The place overall was kept clean, and the owner and staff were friendly, so I ate comfortably.

5. Every menu item available for takeout

Since every menu item can be packed to go, this seems like a great place to use whenever you'd rather eat comfortably at home.

What side dishes come with the gamjatang?

The basic side dishes at Namdareun Gamjatang Suncheon Jorye branch are diced radish kimchi, kimchi, bean sprouts, and cheongyang chili peppers. If you need more, you can grab extra from the self-serve side dish bar.

Rice balls 🍘 — shaping them with the kids

Can't skip the rice balls loaded with roasted seaweed flakes! Packed with seaweed flakes, they were savory and clean-tasting — so good. The kids had even more fun mixing and shaping them by hand themselves :) If you're visiting with kids, the rice balls are a must!!!! They're also delicious dipped lightly into the gamjatang broth 💕

Steamed egg custard (gyeranjjim)

And we also got a warm, soft steamed egg custard. Since it had just come out, steam was still rising off it — it was really hot. The texture was soft and the seasoning was just right, making it good to share with the kids too :)

The rich, deep gamjatang broth was truly incredible. It was loaded with dried napa cabbage and plenty of pork spine, so there was a lot to eat. Best of all, the meat was tender, so the kids picked the meat off the bones easily and ate happily. This really is a well-known Jorye-dong spot for a reason :)

And you can't leave out the instant noodles in gamjatang 🍜 Once we added the noodles, the broth disappeared fast, so I asked for a bit more and they gave us a generous refill. Slurping down the noodles, the gamjatang kept vanishing bit by bit — pure magic ✨ We finished off even the broth happily before leaving Namdareun Gamjatang, a well-known spot in Jorye-dong, Suncheon. I'll remember it as a solid gamjatang restaurant in Suncheon for a filling meal with the kids :)

I went out craving hot soup, and Namdareun Gamjatang Suncheon Jorye branch delivered. With a menu ranging from gamjatang to pork bone hangover soup, it was a great place for a hearty meal. With the evenings turning cool these days, hot soup like this tasted even better.
