Pohang ocean-view restaurant pasta comparison: Plan A Restaurant

In short

Plan A Restaurant is an ocean-view restaurant on the fourth floor of a building on Huimang-daero in Nam-gu, Pohang. I tried two pastas and a chicken salad: I liked the beef tomato spaghetti’s sauce and pasta texture, while the soupy shrimp spaghetti was too mild and lightly seasoned for me. The sea-facing seats were already reserved, so book ahead if the view matters to you.

Where is Plan A Restaurant?

Even when I eat out in Pohang, I find myself looking for somewhere with a sea view. This time, I visited Plan A Restaurant (플랜에이레스토랑), on the fourth floor of a building at 1189 Huimang-daero in Nam-gu, Pohang. I took the elevator up to the restaurant.

Should you reserve a sea-view seat?

When I stepped out toward the veranda, I could see the sea and the beach. Looking out over the blue water, I also noticed people gradually gathering on the beach.

The interior was neat and charming. The sea-facing seats were already reserved when I visited, and other diners also arrived with reservations while I was eating. I recommend booking ahead if you want to sit facing the sea.

I thought it would work for a meal with a partner or for bringing children and parents. However, the view differed depending on which way you faced, even at the same table. I could see the sea, but my companion was seated with their back to it and could not.

What did I order, and how much did it cost?

  • Soupy shrimp spaghetti (spicy): ₩16,000
  • Beef tomato spaghetti: ₩16,000
  • Chicken salad: ₩13,000
  • Cola: ₩2,500

I ordered the two pastas, chicken salad, and cola. All three dishes arrived almost at the same time, which made them easy to eat together.

What did the beef tomato spaghetti taste like?

The beef tomato spaghetti had plenty of sauce and was generously filled with minced beef. I was told it uses minced Korean beef and domestic beef cattle, along with Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. The seasoning suited my taste, and I also liked that the pasta was not thick.

The pasta was cooked well and went nicely with the sauce. My companion also liked the sauce and said that, if they had been less full, they would have wanted to mix rice into it.

How spicy was the soupy shrimp spaghetti?

I ordered the soupy shrimp spaghetti because it was marked as spicy on the menu.

It had plenty of shrimp and mushrooms, with a modest amount of broth. However, for my taste, which prefers spicy food and stronger seasoning, it was a little lacking in both heat and saltiness.

The pasta was softly cooked, and the generous amount of other ingredients was nice. My companion, who does not handle spicy food well and prefers moderate seasoning, said it suited their taste.

My plate had six large, plump shrimp. It also had plenty of button mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms, and oyster mushrooms. I was told the base sauce is spicy and cannot be made non-spicy, but I personally wished there had been an even spicier option.

How was the chicken salad as a side?

Since I also like fresh vegetables, I ordered the chicken salad as well.

The mixed salad and tomatoes were fresh, and it also included dried cranberries and almonds. The chicken was well fried, and it came topped with Oriental dressing and mustard.

After the meal, I took a short walk by the sea. I liked being able to follow a pasta meal with a walk while looking at the water.
