What to eat for lunch in Hongdae (recommendation time!) → < Baengni Gomtang >

It's gochujang (red chili paste) :) I was wondering what to eat for lunch in Hongdae, feeling pretty out of it from the drinks the night before, so I went to <Baengni Gomtang> for some hangover recovery. There are so many good restaurants around Hongdae Station, but weirdly it can be hard to pick a lunch spot. For a clean, satisfying meal in a moment like that, Baengni Gomtang turned out to be a solid Hongdae restaurant and a great Hongdae Korean restaurant for lunch.

Since I'd had quite a lot to drink the night before, what I really craved that day, more than anything else on the menu, was a hot bowl of beef gomtang. One bowl of Baengni Gomtang's beef gomtang and I felt properly recovered :)

Of course the beef yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef mixed rice bowl) was really good too, so if you're craving either gomtang or yukhoe bibimbap, go go!!
Where is Baengni Gomtang, and what are its hours and prices?
- Hours 11:00 - 23:00 (break time 15:00 - 17:00)
- Beef gomtang ₩12,000
- Beef yukhoe bibimbap ₩13,000
- Makgeolli, one cup ₩2,000

Baengni Gomtang is an easy walk from Hongdae Station Exit 7! It's tucked inside an alley, but the sign is visible enough that it wasn't hard to find. Since it's so close to Hongdae Station, I'd especially recommend it to anyone looking for a Hongdae restaurant that's easy to reach by public transit rather than by car. If you're going for lunch, just make sure to arrive before break time (15:00-17:00).

Seating and how to order at Baengni Gomtang
Baengni Gomtang has tables for two and tables for four, and the seating layout and atmosphere made for a comfortable meal. Every table has a tablet, so you can order easily right at your seat.

What I ordered for lunch at Baengni Gomtang, and the prices
True to its name, Baengni Gomtang's menu is built around gomtang, alongside other Korean dishes. What I ordered on this visit was beef gomtang (₩12,000) and beef gochujang yukhoe bibimbap (₩13,000). If two people are visiting for lunch, ordering one gomtang and one yukhoe bibimbap to share sounds like a good plan too.

Given how prices in Hongdae have been lately, this menu isn't too heavy on the wallet for a lunch. And apparently there's a free cup of makgeolli during lunch hours :) There are also other dishes like cold boiled pork salad (₩12,000), meat dumplings (₩8,000), and handmade tteokgalbi (₩9,000), which looked like great sides to go with the gomtang.
Did the Korean beef gomtang really fix the hangover?

Baengni Gomtang's beef gomtang (₩12,000) is a hot broth with that clean, mild flavor gomtang is known for, which made it perfect for the day after drinking too much. Honestly, spicy hangover soups are great too, but personally I'm also a big fan of this kind of hot, mild broth as a hangover cure.

Sipping the warm broth spoonful by spoonful, easy on the stomach, I could feel the hangover from the night before gradually easing off. If you're wondering what to eat for lunch in Hongdae after drinking the night before, I recommend the beef gomtang :)
How was the beef gochujang yukhoe bibimbap?
Baengni Gomtang's beef gochujang yukhoe bibimbap (₩13,000) is a completely different style of dish from the gomtang, so ordering both together made the meal feel much more varied. It's a dish where you mix raw beef yukhoe with rice, so it suits anyone who'd feel gomtang alone isn't quite enough, or who wants a heartier lunch.

The gomtang is mild in style while the yukhoe bibimbap has gochujang, giving it a punchier flavor, so ordering a mild dish plus a spicy dish as a combo works really well. The portion of beef yukhoe was generous too — total bang for your buck! The texture was great and the seasoning wasn't overdone, so I really enjoyed it.

After the meal, there's even a free photo zone in front of the restaurant, so you can make some memories too — Baengni Gomtang, a solid Hongdae restaurant. As a Hongdae lunch recommendation, I recommend Baengni Gomtang for its delicious beef gomtang and yukhoe bibimbap :)
