After turning back from the weekend lunch wait, the writer returned mid-afternoon — there is no break time — and ordered buckwheat soba, perilla oil aged-kimchi bibimbap, cauldron-cooked fresh noodle soup and the top-1% jjolmyeon (chewy spicy noodles). What kind of place is Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch?

One of the best gimbap-and-noodle spots I've been to in Suji — I finally visited Chilseong Jemyeonso, a Suji noodle restaurant favorite. It's a noodle specialty shop with a whopping 33 different noodle dishes, and since it has everything Koreans love — noodles, jjolmyeon (chewy spicy noodles), pork cutlet, and more — there's plenty to choose from depending on your mood.

Honestly, the jjolmyeon and noodles here were the best I've had among restaurants near Seongbok-dong. There's a reason the locals line up for it. The prices are reasonable, the store is clean and pleasant, and the food comes out neat and delicious — if you're looking for a good restaurant in Suji's Seongbok-dong, this is the place. It's also right next to Seongbokcheon stream, so it's perfect to stop by after a walk or a workout.

How long is the wait at Chilseong Jemyeonso?

Chilseong Jemyeonso Suji Main Branch does have a wait on weekend lunches. Last time I visited around 1pm on a weekend, the wait was quite long, so I sadly turned back. It's a genuinely popular spot near Seongbok Station that locals swear by, wait and all. This time I went at an off-peak hour (they have no break time), and even then the store was pretty full. If you hate waiting, either go for an opening run or come at an odd hour — that's my recommendation.

Parking at Seohee Star Hills

You can park for free in the basement level 1 of the Seohee Star Hills commercial parking lot. Plenty of spots available!

Elevator leading from the parking lot up to the 1st floor store

There's an elevator so you can get up easily, and the store is right there once you reach the 1st floor. I attached the menu in video form, so check that out. The menu is made up almost entirely of dishes Koreans love, so it's great for a group ordering a variety of things, or for repeat visits to try one dish at a time.

Cups and cutlery are already on the table, and if you need more, there's a self-serve bar where you can grab extra.

Inside the restaurant: seating and atmosphere

The store is clean and pleasant, and you can dine comfortably no matter where you sit. The floor-to-ceiling windows give a nice view of Seongbokcheon stream outside, and the space is cozy with friendly staff — good for any group, any age.

Buckwheat soba on a tray (panmemil soba)

I ordered the buckwheat soba near the end of summer, and the buckwheat noodles were the real deal — better than plenty of dedicated soba places.

The bonito broth was refreshing and clean with plenty of umami, pairing perfectly with the chewy noodles.

Perilla oil aged-kimchi bibimbap

The best dish I had that day. First off, there's an amazing variety and amount of vegetables on top, so you can eat without worrying about a blood sugar spike.

There's meat mixed in too, adding extra savory depth.

With a nutty, fragrant hit of perilla oil, tangy well-fermented aged kimchi, and crunchy assorted vegetables all coming together, it was a harmoniously delicious bibimbap. You have to try this one!

Cauldron-cooked fresh noodle soup

Fresh noodle strands in anchovy broth

The rich anchovy-based broth simmered in a cauldron was full of deep flavor, and the noodles — fresh-made, chewy and springy — made it noticeably better than usual. As the weather gets cooler, this is a flavor I'll be craving again!

Loaded with a generous heap of fresh vegetables, this dish shines with its spicy-sweet jjolmyeon sauce and chewy, springy jjolmyeon noodles.

With a touch of added spice, the flavor was clean and even more delicious — the sour, sweet, and spicy trio landed perfectly, and it was seriously good. No wonder it's the signature dish!! It's tasty on its own, but I think it's even better as a set with pork cutlet included. Pairing it with the fried side dishes would also be amazing!

Neat plating, clean food, friendly service, a pleasant store, easy parking — there's no reason not to come to this genuinely good Suji noodle restaurant.
