Jeonpo curry restaurant with cooler-bag frozen curry: Sarugak20

Ahead of Chuseok, on my way out to Jeonpo-dong to get my hair dyed, I also stopped by for lunch and to pick up some frozen curry to eat over the holiday at Sarugak20, a curry restaurant in Jeonpo, Busan 😁 You can actually order through their Smart Store and get it delivered, but right before the holiday, delivery was already closed. So since I was heading out to Jeonpo-dong anyway, I figured I'd pick some up in person.

Where is Sarugak20? A basement across from Jeonpo Community Center

Sarugak20, a Jeonpo curry restaurant in Busan, sits right across from the entrance of Jeonpo Community Center. It's mainly Japanese-style curry with a bunch of side menu items too. I'd eaten there once before and remembered it being so delicious that I made a mental note — I have to come back here! haha 😆

It's a basement-level restaurant, but honestly it doesn't feel like a basement at all... hahaha. You go down to reach the entrance, but inside, natural light pours in through the windows.

Solo lunch order at Sarugak20: beef brisket cream curry with scrambled egg and sausage

If you like soft, deep flavors, I highly recommend the cream curry! I've tried both the cream curry and the special curry, and the cream curry's softness and weight suit my taste better. So today I went with beef brisket cream curry again! And I added scrambled egg and sausage toppings, plus ordered a sweet potato cheese croquette.

Can you buy frozen curry when holiday delivery stops? Yes, in the shop

You can also buy frozen curry directly at the restaurant. Everything was showing sold out on the Smart Store, so worried I might not be able to get any, I sent a message on Instagram DM first. They told me delivery was closed just because of the holiday, but I could still buy it in-store — so I visited feeling reassured haha. I packed both cream curry and spinach curry to freeze and bring home! Planning to eat curry at home over Chuseok haha.

Inside Sarugak20: seating and the window bar table made for solo diners

What I meant about it not feeling like a basement... you get it now, right? It's completely bright and doesn't feel like a basement at all. Maybe it's because it's on a slight hill haha. Overall the space has a wood-toned, cozy, comfortable vibe.

There are cozy, private-feeling floor tables, a central table great for groups eating together, and a bar table perfect for solo dining — great for enjoying a solo meal by the sunlit window.

Even the hand-washing area was styled so nicely! Wash your hands clean before you eat haha.

The weather was so clear and lovely that I could see this blue sky out the window just by lifting my head slightly while eating!

How the beef brisket cream curry tastes, with toppings and kkakdugi

The beef brisket cream curry I came back for after loving it last time! You can add extra toppings like sausage, tonkatsu, or egg to make it more filling.

Scrambled egg and sausage, added for variety! The sausage was snappy and springy, so good. Just watch out for juice spurting out lol. It's Japanese curry, but you can't skip kimchi with curry. It comes with really tasty kkakdugi, and it's the cool-style kind, so delicious!

Crispy outside, soft inside — the sweet potato cheese croquette! It's delicious on its own, but dipping it in the cream curry makes it even better.

Deep, rich flavored cream curry...! It's not spicy and has a mild taste, so I think kids could eat it well too. And of course, loaded with beef brisket, it can't not be delicious...!!!

The brisket was so generously piled in that I got a piece with every single spoonful until I finished the rice lol. The savory brisket and mild cream curry go so well together.

Every so often taking a bite of the snappy sausage alongside makes it even more varied and enjoyable.

Does Sarugak20 give refills on rice and curry?

Another great thing about Sarugak20, this curry restaurant in Jeonpo, Busan! You can get extra rice and curry on request. If you're a guy or someone with a big appetite and worry the portion might be short, they'll give you more curry and rice so you can eat until you're full. As for me, I was enjoying it so much that... I ran short on curry for dipping my croquette lol, so I asked for a bit more curry and got it lol.

Carrying frozen curry home: how long a cooler bag holds up

Just in case, I brought along a cooler bag I had at home. Since I wasn't heading straight home but stopping at the hair salon first, I worried the frozen curry might thaw, so I packed it in the cooler bag to carry it along. They gave me plenty of ice packs inside, and when I got home a few hours later, it was still frozen solid and fine haha. Now I can enjoy Sarugak20's delicious curry comfortably at home too 😃
